La Liga Preview: Barcelona - Recreativo
FC Barcelona (3rd, 24pts) v Recreativo (18th, 12pts)
When: 20:00 CET - Saturday, November 24, 2007
Where: Camp Nou, Barcelona
FC Barcelona will be looking forward to the visit of Recreativo for more reasons than one as they can finally start answering their critics in the best way possible.
A resounding win and a strong performance will silence the snipers and naysayers that have been attacking the Catalan outfit since they were beaten by Getafe two weeks ago.
The Blaugrana's away day performances this term have given the Spanish press all the ammunition that they need to claim that a crisis is brewing at Camp Nou.
In the last fortnight the inquest has been ongoing about whether it is the system, the attitude, the desire, the ability, the technique, the players themselves of the coach who is to blame.
Barça did not play well against Villarreal, Valladolid or Getafe and with an international break and no transfer news, they were seen as fair game.
Calmer Waters
This weekend will be seen as a chance to calm the waters, even it is a home match, and then the preparations can begin in earnest for the short trip to neighbours Espanyol a week later.
Edmílson's outburst may not have been the most helpful, but rather than see everyone cry out in shock, his statement that certain players prefer money and material items to winning games was met with a shrug of the shoulders.
It was surprising to hear a player still earning a huge wage at one of the biggest clubs in the world say such bold things, but no surprise about what he did say.
Recre will arrive in Catalunya knowing that they could well be facing a backlash from a side determined to put their season firmly back on track.
Frank Rijkaard's side have a 100 per cent record at home this season and it is difficult to believe that they will slip up this weekend.
Same Score
The Andalucian side have made the trip north two times in recent seasons and on both occasions have returned home having been beaten 3-0.
In 2002-03, goals from Fabio Rochemback, Patrick Kluivert and Philip Cocu did the damage, while last term two goals from Ronaldinho and a header from Xavi secured the win for the hosts.
Former Barça star Víctor Muñoz took over from Marcelinho as coach of Recre in the summer and he has struggled to find the same momentum that saw the club almost qualify for Europe via the league last term.
Two weeks ago, Recre secured only their third win of the season as they defeated Osasuan, having already beaten Espanyol and Deportivo back in September.
Before that last victory though, Muñoz's side had not scored in six consecutive games and had only a single point from a goalless draw with Racing.
That run saw the club plummet towards the bottom three and they arrive to face Barça sitting in 18th position.

PREDICTION
Barça at home are a formidable force as they revel in the expanse of the Camp Nou pitch and are lifted by their own supporters. The away day question will be forgotten on Saturday evening as they look to silence the critics and Recreativo will do well to limit the damage. The visitors have only won away one this term and they are not are not going to double that tally in this game.
FC Barcelona 3 - 0 Recreativo
