Things are looking good for Spanish sides it seems, beyond the Madrid final this year. next year there will be Athletic in CL playing in their new 53k seater San Mamés stadium. Atletico too will have a new 74k stadium, ready for 2016/17. and apparently they sold the new stadium 5 yrs naming rights to Etihad Airways for €215m. if they manage to win either of LaLiga or CL they will be set both financially and sporting-wise as a top club.

(not sure about the Etihad sponsorship, I read about it in calcioefinanza.it : http://www.calcioefinanza.it/atleti...-il-nome-di-etihad-su-proprio-stadio/?lang=en)

I think Italian clubs have to do a lot and quickly to stay competitive.

215mln for 5 years? Doubt it.

I read 115 - 150mln for 10 years.

I read €155m for 10 years...but the article I linked was of a later date and stated the higher amount. don't think it's possible to know for sure until Atletico publish their 13/14 accounts or announce it on their official website.

There are well known issue that Italian football must overcome. Poor infrastructure and as a result steady decrease in attendances - every year there's 1-2k fans less that visit stadiums - along with Serie A governing body's inabilities to impose structural changes have been dragging this league down for to long; reducing the number of teams and less bureaucracy necessary to obtain building permit would be a good start. All these have been taking its toll during the years and have contributed to the current state. The state is not dramatic yet, but is certainly threatening to become one. There's a strong tradition that Italian clubs have, you can find more illustrious clubs compared to La Liga and Bundesliga, but until some deep rooted irregularities are corrected they will lag behind.

Summer 2012: 4 players arrived (Rodriguez, Insua (3.5mln), Raul Garcia & Diego Costa (from loans)
Summer 2013: They sold Falcao for 60mln and bought Villa for 2mln
January 2014: Diego arrived for 1.5mln

So, all in all, you see Atletico who spent 7mln euros and who are the moment first in La Liga and who are also playing CL final. At this point it doesn't even matter if they win it or not, what they've done this year is nothing but brilliant.

And people complain how we can't compete against high revenue clubs, how we don't have as much depth as other teams and how we're more tired than other teams.

There will always be clubs like Dortmund, Atletico, Porto, Monaco, etc... that will achieve something remarkable in one season and surprise many, you shouldn't take them as a rule. When Juve makes that breakthrough, when we consistently manage to reach semis, finals, we will stay there for a while. Clubs like Atletico and Dortmund aren't capable of that.

Yeah, we're not trying to be a random breakout team, for Juve we need to consistently challenge. We had a setback this year, but the goal is always to challenge.
