The most expensive footballer in history may now be used to guarantee the solvency of a Spanish bank. “Ronaldo in the bailout fund,” headlines Süddeutsche Zeitung. The daily reports that the Bankia group of savings banks, which financed Real Madrid’s acquisition of the Portuguese player, is now seeking to borrow funds from the European Central Bank. In response to the ECB’s demand for guarantees, Bankio are putting up… Ronaldo and the Brazilian Kaka, who also plays for the Madrid football club. In 2009, Real borrowed 76.5 million euros to pay transfer fees of 100 millions euros to Manchester United, and 60 million to Milan AC.

“Could we see a situation in which the ECB seizes one of the players?“ wonders the Munich daily. “In theory, it is possible. Bankia would first have to become insolvent. Thereafter, Real would have to default on its loans, which are secured by advertising and television revenues. It goes without saying that Real Madrid is in debt to the tune of several million euros. However, in Spain football clubs have a history of obtaining publicly funded bailouts — just like the country’s banks.”
This would be the funniest shit ever.

You really think so? Thiago might not be fully ready to take on Xavi's place until another two years or something, in the meanwhile Real Madrid are breathing on the neck of Barca, Barca need to keep up their momentum and not lose one year, or the balance of power might tip to Real's side. They can't afford to wait on Thiago.

Also, lets not forget that Iniesta is injury prone.

That's actually my point. I think he's very capable of starting matches, just like Pedro and Busquets (who I don't even rate). I think this Thiago kid can surpass Fabregas and add much more in Barcelona, I think he'd suit them more, especially in attack.

I see Barca doing something very retarded, like buying Cesc for zillion euros and then wanting Thiago back (since I think he will be sold, I doubt he's crazy enough to wait for Barca to give him a shot) and offering a looot more than his current price.

I doubt they'll sell him, they play a lot of games, i'm sure he'll get his chance. Iniesta can play on the wings sometimes. But ya, i doubt he'll get much chances next season.

Though i really hope they leave us alone and rely on Thiago instead. With some luck Iniesta won't be injured too much next season, and Xavi might be capable of playing enough games, with Thiago getting his chance as well. :xfinger:

But at least we'll qualify for a CL spot with Cesc(ya thats how low my expectations are)

The problem is, we have money, and i really think 3 more signings, a leftback, a strong center back and a midfielder are enough for us to compete seriously for the title. But they need to be really good players, not 17 year olds from Botswana.

Gervinho can play as a striker. But ya, i wouldn't say no to another striker. I don't rate Chamakh.

We have consistently been spending less than Liverpool, Tottenham, City, Chelsea and United for years now. Our problem isn't how we invest our money, our problem is that we don't invest enough money.

I hope he keeps playing well in the friendlies perhaps they'll leave us alone. Then we don't have to listen to arrogant fucks like Xavi running their mouth.

the better Thiago performs in the friendlies, the more likely Barca are to realize they don't need a 40 mil player considering their current financial struggles ... and then, come late August :weee:

Monty will likely come but he is a squad player for now and not the big signing ... it's very unwise to underestimate Milan, though :)
