Based on what Capello did with Roma last season, don't be surprised if we play with 3 at the back with wingbacks and have Nedved behind Del Piero & Mutu (if he joins).....sometimes, Capello doesn't like having a static target man and he loves a packed midfield who controls the ball.

By "3 at the back with wingbacks", do you mean that we'll play a 5-man backline? I've got nothing against that, but I don't really understand how we can have a 5-man backline, Nedved DP and Mutu at the front, and somehow have a "packed midfield who controls the ball"

capello didnt have a static man at roma though, and thats why he played it as such. montella was the only real world class striker they had and he isnt static. and when he was injured, it was better to just play totti and cassano as carew and del vecchio are freaking hopeless.

surely capello wouldnt see mutu as being a main striker and with signing trezeguet on, i think he has plans for him in the line up.

and if a 3 man defence was introduced, who would play on the right as a wing back? Oddo?? or will janks come in and play left and zambro right again?

i think having 4 at the back may allow nedved, mutu and one of del piero/miccoli to play provided cap uses mutu as a playmaker.

So you guys have any reason to still think that Mutu is coming, other than that "Juve make a move for Mutu" article by channel4? I just don't see Chelsea having only 3 strikers on the team........very risky, but they're known to be retarded with these things.

a 3-5-2 would be nice

with oddo and zamb going forward and comin for cover.

with emmo - neddy - blasi in the centre and with mutu and trezegoal up front
who would be the three at the back though? zebina, thuram and legro?? i think he'll play a 3 man defence only if another gun defender joins like cannavaro. but even then, if oddo does join also, i think he'll just let zambro and oddo attack from full back and have emo, blasi and neddy as the three in the middle. if mutu is at the club, capello must be thinking of playing two out of mutu, del piero and miccoli at one time.

i doubt isn't it just a rumour?? I don't want Mutu just on loan when then we should sign him!! but i would also prefer Gilardino, but maybe Mutu for this year and Gilardino next season (when he is going to stay at parma)

What does it say? That he's coming or just that there's interest from Juve?
That he might be coming as soon as today..

I simply used Google and Altavista....

Mutu near to Juve switch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EXCLUSIVE
Juventus are closing in on the capture of Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu, after submitting an offer for the Romania international.

Mutu has demanded showdown talks with new Blues boss Jose Mourinho regarding his future at Stamford Bridge.

Following the summer arrivals of Didier Drogba and Mateja Kezman, Mutu is concerned about his prospects of regular first team football.

It appears he has not been convinced he has a prominent role to play for The Premiership's big-spenders and is set to return to Serie A.

The Turin giants have put together a package to bring the 25-year-old back to Italy after just one season in West London.

Mutu joined Chelsea last summer in a £15.8 million deal from Parma but it seems The Blues are prepared to cut their losses on the hit-man.

Fiorentina are also keen on Mutu but it appears the prospect of UEFA Champions League football with Juventus has swung the deal in their favour.

Juve are understood to have asked Chelsea if they can take Mutu on loan for the season, with a view to a permanent move next summer.

The forward's representative Giovanni Becali confirmed a deal is in the pipeline after Mutu received no assurances from Mourinho.

"Mutu spoke with Mourinho and asked him if he has the same chances of a place like a main player," Becali told skysports.com.

"The coach explained to the Romanian striker that the order is this: Kezman, Drogba, Gudjohnsen and only then Mutu.

"Juve will pay the whole salary of the player and, at the end of the season, they will have the right to purchase him. The loan deal is for free." The ex-Dinamo Bucharest starlet enjoyed a fine start to his Chelsea career but the goals dried up in the second half of the campaign and he will be aiming to rediscover the goal trail in Italy.

the same news from football_ Italia:

Juve to take Mutu today? Thursday 5 August, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some Italian newspapers claim that Adrian Mutu could sign for Juventus as early as this afternoon, although his agent admits Fiorentina are interested.

“There are two clubs who have expressed an interest in the player,” revealed representative Andrea Pretti. “What we need to understand now is the approach Chelsea are taking to Mutu’s situation.”

The former Parma and Verona star had a sparkling start to his Premiership career, but injuries and personality clashes saw him drop down the pecking order. The arrival of new buys Mateja Kezman and Didier Drogba now seems set to push him back towards Serie A.

“However,” pointed out Pretti, “if we look at all the top clubs going into the Champions’ League, they tend to have four world class strikers on their books. This is why I’m not sure Chelsea would want to give away Mutu.”

Nonetheless, his rapport with new Coach Jose Mourinho is said to be difficult, while Juventus are putting the pressure on to have Mutu replace Valencia-bound Marco Di Vaio.

Italian newspapers claim that a deal could be struck as early as this afternoon, allowing him to register for Juve’s Champions’ League preliminary round tie with Djurgardens before the midnight deadline.

Fiorentina are also showing a great deal of interest in the player, but are unlikely to splash out after signing Chilean creative midfielder Jaime Valdes from Bari and taking Real Madrid’s Javier Portillo on loan.

The Corriere dello Sport suggests that the Bianconeri will take Mutu on loan with an option to buy half his contract at the end of the season for £7m, while the Gazzetta insists they will snap him up in a co-ownership deal immediately for £8m.

“Considering that Roman Abramovich’s side spent £16m on Mutu,” added his agent, “I think the only likely solution would be to loan him out with the right to buy at the end of the season.”

This is not the only option for Juventus, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly rejected the opportunity to extend his contract with Ajax. As his current deal expires in 2006, the Dutch giants might be willing to sell him now in order to still make a profit.

However, it is more likely that the Swedish international – who scored a stunning goal against Italy in Euro 2004 – will stay on in Amsterdam for another year.

I like Mutu a lot. The Serie A one. A great second striker playmaker but he lost that in England. I understand that the playmaker role is not used in England but that still doesnt explain how bad Mutu became. He did do lot for his team though and still caused a threat. Just lost the touch of class and played in a rushed manner.

I don't think he was that bad at all, I saw him several times and he was good, some games very good. Of course he had bad games, and he certainly wasn't as good as his previous year in Serie A, but still...

Well its obvious that his missed playmaker role in england explains his bad season.
But i think he is good and a player like him should never have taken the step down to EPL in the first place, he most get back to Serie A.

Its like going from the wonderfull football game, to kick and run/rugby football, of course it goes to hell.

He started off great with Chelsea. He did a lot for the team but the goals dryed up. You know I still reckon that Mutu can adapt to the Epl. Great players should be able to play anywhere.
