Perhaps someone can kindly confirm or correct my financial wrangling of the Zaza move...

We picked him up for 3.5m 100%, then sold 50% to Sassuolo for 2.5m. Leaving us 1m for 50%.
Sassuolo then purchased his remaining 50% for 7.5m. Leaving us 6.5m in profit on the deal, yet with set buy-out clauses for june 15 and 16. we exercised the latter. Purchasing Zaza for 18m. Yet this came out as 11.5m.

So essentially, we have signed Zaza for EU11.5m. Which seems good business to me. He represents more muscle and athleticism than our other strikers, offers a more brutish thread, which only Mario has in some shades.

I assume we not just had the buy-back option, put in place last Summer, but we agreed to make use of it this Summer, whether in June or July. There must be good reason for us waiting until the June deadline had passed. And that reason is most likely connected to Berardi.

As for Berardi...we picked up our 50% of him for 50% of Marrone. So no real cash there...(we ended up bringing him back for 500k and Peluso who was apparently valued at 4.5m, yet we retained our 50% in Berardi). We 'sold' his 50% that we had pretty much picked up for peanuts, to Sassuolo for 10m, who we were giving 11.5m to for Zaza...leaving a difference of 1.5m in real cash. And now we have the option of picking up berardi for 18m next Summer, which I assume is a given, and we will try to include other players...

Not much cash seems to have changed hands, until Berardi's full purchase. To finance which, I suspect we will sell Zaza!

Nah, we signed him as 18, not 11.5. We didn't have to sign him. But we did, and are 18m poorer
money doesn't exist from just one year to the next. you have to consider the entire inflow/outflow. they basically padded the books last year with the sale and now are spreading the fee over multiple installments...it's genius

Are you saying that us buying him back was agreed beforehand? I'm not sure about that. Wouldn't we have to announce that since our shares are publicly sold?

:agree:

it's like saying we sold vidal for 37 therefore dybala only cost us 5 mil
nonsense...It is nothing of the sort. vidal and dybala are separate deals for separate players. There is no comparison whatsoever.

The actual financial cost of Zaza seems to be 11.5m. Or you can look at it in a different, rather convoluted and illogical way of...Sassuolo agreed to pay us 7.5m for Zaza in 2014 over 3-4 years, and we now agreed to pay Sassuolo 18m over 3-4 years. We will not be paying them, whilst they are paying us, for the same player. That makes no sense, other than from an accounting view. Which is of less interest to me. What is of interest is that Zaza presently, looks like costing us 11.5m.

However, take into account that Sassuolo are now paying us over 4 years 10m for Berardi, when we sign him next year, we will already have received maybe 2.5m (?) so if we pick him up for 18m we are really only playing 15.5m...

Of course there will be a fair portion who don't see the details of these deals and only focus on the numbers in the headlines. And it might be fair to say that Zaza has a value of 18m. But that is not the same as to say we are paying 18m for him in cash.\

Also seems logical to assume that for us to wait until the 15m option had passed, and to 'pay' the extra 3m, was in exchange for something...probably/certainly related to the Berardi deal. Perhaps an option to take him in January for 18m if one of our other forwards is crunched, including an agreement for us to send them Coman or something along those loans, as compensation, as a loan for the remainder of the season...that would seem fair.

Still, Beppe and Paratici are too wily to be dillydallying, and suddenly realize 'damn!' the price has gone up by 3m! nevermind eh! We got something for that 3m. Which we will never end up paying in cash...

i think marotta and company are very business saavy and have an understanding with the Sassuolo folks. as soon as they put that buyback clause in there, you just knew what would happen next year. Same will happen next year with berardi guaranteed.

Spot on, mate. These buy-back clauses are simply a way around the co-ownership routine and a guaranteed profit and payment for the feeder club to keep playing and developing the players destined for greater things. It's new-age Co-ownership. And seems to suit Beppe's loan and right to purchase routine perfectly, just in a different shape. Instead, we loan our youngsters to feeder clubs with a chance for them to purchase and our chance to insert a fixed fee, which we have judged upon the player's probable development thereafter.

I see Berardi as already our player, moreso than ever before really. We have agreed the fee. Respected his wishes to remain at Sassuolo. Compensation with Sassuolo agreed for his development. See how he fares this season and feels next Summer. Might be time then for Champions league football and he should be more cemented in la nazionale.

It is in juves interest to keep a good relationship with sassoulo. The money changing hands in the various deals are probably for balancing the books for both teams. Zaza is a good and young player, who will bring something to this team. We cant expect sassoulo to develope our players for free. Berardi is next, and he looks to be the biggest italian wing/forward talent.

Glad we found the new scapegoat after one pre-season start.

We don't have to have one, honestly.
He was already geared as the scapegoat as soon as people started inflating his price.

Hell before last season finished and it was well known he would sign people here "knew" who was going to be the scapegoat
