like 1.5 but i wouldn't call myself fluent in any one except English.

I can get around in Spanish and German.....
It's the biggest reason why a lot of Europeans hate Americans, Burke. I'm not saying Italians are good at foreign languages (even though they usually speak either Spanish or French), but at least they don't expect everyone to speak Italian. They are willing to make an effort when travelling abroad. Americans in Europe however will talk English all the time. Oh, and yes, Europeans are laughing behind your back in the hotel.

Being accused of genocide isn't funny. De gustibus et coloribus non disputandem est might be true and all, but I bet you'll have a hard time finding anyone else who thinks it's hilarious.
Look, you're turning out to be the boy who cried wolf in this thread. You state that Americans are inferior in numerous discussions; we agree with you and disagree with you in some respects. Some of your opinions are quite alarming and couldn't be taken seriously unless you actually went through the system in the United States.

But yet, as accommodating as we have been with many of your grievances, you can't even take some jokes regarding an obvious single-handed action by some of your soldiers.

And this is happening here while in other threads people wish death upon all American soldiers no matter what they have done, and also without any confrontation on the behalf of the Americans here.

If anything, you sir should shut up and we should be the ones who have a fucking pitty party.

This is a lot of bullshit, Andy. If you had been joking about the isolated incident there wouldn't have been a problem whatsoever. Referring to a Belgian genocide whilst using jokes connected to the Holocaust is an entirely different thing though. And it's really not the first time you turn stuff like this into a nationalistic debate.

Never did I speak of genocide.

And you're the one who always turns stuff into a nationalistic debate. That's actually naturally implanted in your psyche which can be seen in many of your arguments.

think of it this way seven, the smaller an issue is, the higher the degree of exaggeration to make it funny
That might be so, but while I'm willing to accept any form of ad hominem attacks I just can't agree with this. The principle you mention is somehow true in a lot of cases, but I think this has gone too far.

Have the decency to learn about other cultures FFS. You're all so narrowminded it sickens me.
Thank you for putting it into words that maybe you might finally understand. I've been trying to tell you this throughout this entire thread.

p.s.: Oh, and :rofl2: @ Andy and Burke. :D

Oh please, we all learned about American culture. Everyone did. Whether we wanted to or not.

I mean Christ, I don't care if someone insults the United States for good reason. To some, I insult this place on a daily basis. But for fuck's sake... if there is any nation that is castigated on these forums it's the United States and it's citizens.

There were at least five occasions this summer where I was attacked for being an American. People told me to "shut up, murderous American" and "Go play baseball." It's probably actually more than five times because I frankly lost count.

But it doesn't matter. You don't see me revolting because of it. You don't see the other Americans revolting either. Insulting the US is just something that people like to do. So don't give me this pity crap for Belgium.

First of all: I have never insulted someone for being American. What is very annoying though is your cultural arrogance. I don't know where it comes from though. But again: it's not about laughing about Belgium. I'm okay with that. Linking Belgium to genocides is a different story however.

Neither Burke or myself was saying anything about genocide. Get that out of your brain, Andries. You can do it.

The cultural arrogance stems from a lot of crap and I don't like it, but this arrogance shouldn't be used against us in other facets of our nation, such as college education. You're better than that.

That's it. I'm not tolerating this racism towards Belgium anymore. In fact I'm through with English speaking people in general. Have the decency to learn about other cultures FFS. You're all so narrowminded it sickens me. Australians, Americans, Canadians it's all the same. As long as you speak English you're retarded.

@Enron: read a bit on America's role in Rwanda. It was quite clear and far worse than the Belgian one. We always criticised our own government because it took all the Belgian soldiers out of the country, but then again we couldn't fall back on UN support because America was against UN soldiers in Rwanda.
I have read a bit on America's role. The US wasn't the only country with it's hand in the proverbial cookie jar. Once again, the US was outstretched with foreign endeavors in other areas of the world. Europe also decided decided to leave the situation alone. But hey if we had forced the UN to go in we'd probably be blamed for some other debacle. I'm generally quick to criticize US policy but Africa is definitely a situation where Europe did the damage before we could get there.

Look man you call us narrow minded and say we don't learn about other cultures. It really seems like a case of the pot calling the kettle black. You're just as narrow minded from your position as we are from ours. If not more.

You might want to go ahead and look up the meaning of nationalism, Andy.
nationalism |ˈna sh ənəˌlizəm|
noun
patriotic feeling, principles, or efforts towards the cooking of different people or persons
• an extreme form of this, esp. marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries' cooking of people.
• advocacy of political independence for a particular country : Palestinian nationalism.

When it comes to the US, Andries is more narrow-minded than we are regarding Belgium. We have nothing whatsoever against the country, but he will say differently because of my jokes regarding the nation.

The truth is - Belgium appears to be a very nice nation.

What I am not willing to do however is accept such an attitude from Americans. It's morally repulsive because of so many reasons and it is completely void of any sense of class whatsoever.
Look at you Andries. Looking at the world through a pair of glasses with lenses the size of dimes. Too important to take sass from a lowly American. I truly wish you could see how pompous that attitude seems at times.

That's impossible even if merely for geographical reasons. Grab a map and have a look at Europe. They're all different cultures. We can't afford to be as narrow minded as you are. Not to mention the fact that different languages make you think in different ways. It's hard to understand if you're not fluent in any foreign language, but if you are I'm sure you get what I mean.

As for Africa, I never said America was most to blame. But America's role in Rwanda was most likely bigger than Belgium's and America's role in Africa during the Cold War was an especially dirty one. Furthermore the United States have been the major suppliers of weapons in Africa ever since the late 1970's and have often made sure wars didn't stop too soon, so they could keep on delivering weapons.

Whatever way you look at it, America's foreign policy has been a disaster for well over 40 years and I think the subject wasn't well picked.
