We have a great cultural diversity in these forums, and I just thought we might learn some interesting things if we share a little bit about the things we perceive as normal everyday behaviours etc.

In Australia, we:

• drive on the left side of the road
• hold our forks with our left hand
• line up in queues in an orderly fashion
• step off/lean over the footpath and wave an arm to signal a taxi
• never negotiate prices
• say "cheese" when taking a photo
• greet people by shaking hands or waving
• arrive on time to meet people

In germany(cologne), we have:

• public transport that arrives on time
• Awful Neighbours
• A Strong turkish contigent
• Karneval, a festival every february were everyone in colonge dresses up in funny costumes for a few days and goes round getting drunk
• .. have the day of the 'carrot' and 'potato'.. as excuses to get drunk
• local newspapers which report trash and trash only
• 1 in 5 teenagers you will see are 'posers'
• awful local delicacys
• Grafiti in every alleyway imagineable
• a shop ran by turkish people on every street

In Singapore, this is wad we have

Drive on the right side of the road
"Tidy" road system
Have a rich diversity of races, which explains that fact that we have a wide variety of food.
Fighting like there's no tomorrow when there r bargains/buffet
Arrive late (typical Singaporean behaviour)
Ppl cloging up the escalator when alighting from trains
Dress sloppily due to hot + humid weather
Many people playing soccer, basketball and swimming.
Huge apartments

Well, its never that extreme. half of colonge is drunk during the day time. no one is not dressed up in costumes.

All the kids skip school for daytime drinking. its fun


And yes, public transport here kicks ass

Same in here as well. At least u don't have to wait > 10 mins for a bus.
And the waiting frequency for the bus/train is adequate

Not to forget, gates in underground train stations

yeah. we have trams here that go all over colonge, and a tram comes every 2 minutes in some important stations.

In Hong Kong,

Even greater transport system, trains coming for 3-minutes in off-peak hours
Messy road system, u would see a flyover suddenly when ur travelling down a road
ppl r less friendly, in fact I would use the word "cold"
Tall-high rise apartments ranging between 50-60 stories
High rise office building, in fact everything in HK r high-rised due to packed population
Pupils saying f*** here and there
Dirty streets and drains
U have to walk cautiously and keep ur bag/handbag in front of u
Cheap CD stores
Cheap restaurants
A variety of food even though not as much as sg
Good service industry

Man I lived in SIngapore longer than in HK yet I have a better memory about HK instead of here.

Jakarta:

* Drive in right.
* You can avoid parking ticket by giving Mr. Policeman Rp 50,000.
* REALLY cheap food (Rp 5,000 can fill your tummy full) and a lot of tasty variety.
* Dirty. Everywhere.
* Security is even worse.
* People are kinda friendly but some are racist. (I know because I'm minority there).
* Lazy people. Every house has different time zone therefore late is common.
* Awful transportation. Buses can stop anywhere they like and Mr. Policeman won't do a thing. Traffic jam could last for hours.
* Some food are eaten by hands. It tastes better that way.
* People return to their hometown after one month of fasting is over.
* Pirated CDs and softwares are sold everywhere even in legal stores.

In Norway

• people are known to be honest and law abiding
• we barely have highways
• the population is spread right across the country
• people are extremely passionate about their regional heritage (and dialects )
• people are known to be very quiet and tranquil
• it is very uncommon for two strangers to start talking on the train
• most people have very little clue about any other country
• a large percent of the population believes Norway is basically the most advanced nation in most things and going abroad is nowhere but down with few exceptions
• people do not run from the rain with papers over their heads, we know it's just water

Lagos:

* Drive on the right.
* You can avoid any fine at all by giving the police or LASTMA a negotiated fee.
* REALLY cheap food (N100 can fill your stomach) and a lot of tasty varieties.
* Dirty. It's sickening.
* Security is even worse.
* People are definitely unfriendly.
* Lazy people. Every house has different time zone therefore late is common.
* Awful transportation. Buses can stop anywhere they like and law enforcement agencies would look the other way because they can't get a bribe from public transporters except it is a really nasty offense.
*Traffic jam could last for hours.
* Some food are eaten by hand. It tastes better that way.
* Pirated CDs and softwares are sold everywhere even in legal stores.

* Drive on the right.
* You can't just bribe your way out of an offense, but the police here are courteous because they don't know who you are.
* Expensive city, people here have the belief that to be a resident of Abj you must be rich.
* Neat, very neat in most places.
* Security is great.
* People are friendly.
* Lazy people. Every house has different time zone therefore late is common. That is a general Nigerian problem which we call African time
* Organised transportation. You get wherever whenever you want to get there..
* Some food are eaten by hands. It tastes better that way.
* People return to their hometowns most weekends.
* People are known to be law abiding, not necessarily honest.
* A large percent of the population believes Abuja is basically the best city in Nigeria and aren't willing to settle elsewhere.
*Hot, very hot.
