Yeah, definitely. It's taught in all schools here but once people leave school most will never use it again. There are some small regions dotted around the country (mostly in the west) where it's the main language and people speak it fluently.

The green areas on this map are the only places where Irish is the predominant language.

What's even worse is that most fluent Irish speakers are old people, my grandparents' generation.
