Legrottaglie: “I’m all set”

“I’m all set, finally. I had a few muscular problems last week but I feel great now, a little fluey, but great never the less”. After three months on the sidelines with a dislocated shoulder, Nicola Legrottaglie is back to full strength and ready to put his injury demons to bed. “The defence has been plagued with injuries so it’s a good time for me to be returning. After three months of inactivity it’s normal for there to be question marks over my fitness. Ninety minutes of game time is never the same as training, but I’m happy and relaxed right now and that will enable me to give my all on the field. I’m convinced I can do well”. Nicola hasn’t had the easiest of rides with the Bianconeri faithful but he’s hoping he can win their support with a good run of performances. “I’ve never had any problems with the fans, if anything it’s been the other way round. I didn’t make the best start to my career here but the experience has just made me stronger. It was great being with the fans in the stands [against Cesena] but I want to win their affection on the pitch, that’s where it really counts”.

The defender is hoping the shoulder injury he suffered on the Bianconeri’s away trip to Napoli in early November will be his last for quite some time. “I hope things go well and I’m able to enjoy some continuity. It’s important to play several games in a row, from a physical point of view as well”. Nicola is confident the team can return to top form in the coming weeks. “We’ve been working on our approach to games in training; we haven’t had the right mentality recently. When you begin the championship with a seventeen point penalty you’re naturally injected with the desire and inner strength to make up the deficit. When you catch up with the rest of the pack it’s hard not to ease off a little and that’s been our major problem. It won’t take much to get that right though and we’ll be going out there on Saturday with a different attitude”. The defender is well aware of the threat posed by Rimini. “They’re strong up front so it’s important we deny them room to manoeuvre. We’ll be chasing the three points at all costs but we also have to make sure we don’t give anything away at the back”. Players pay a high price for errors in defence and Nicola will be looking to maintain his focus from first to last. “You can play well for 89 minutes but it only takes one mistake to cost you a goal. As defenders we need to keep our concentration at all times as strikers only need one chance. We mustn’t give anything away cheaply”.

Legrottaglie has high hopes for the future. “We might not have the same crop of champions as we did last year but I’m convinced we can be winners all the same. Teams with big names don’t always win trophies, just look at Inter in recent years or Real Madrid. It’s having the right spirit and a tight group that counts; technique can be substituted by other qualities”. The defender has great respect for the work of Didier Deschamps since his arrival last summer. “The club deserves praise for the way it’s handled the transition from last year, it hasn’t been easy. The coaching staff have done a great job in getting the players focused on the immediate objectives, the boss in particular. He’s used dialogue to deal with many of the smaller problems and created an atmosphere of calm at the club”.

Rimini According to Juventus.com:

The Bianconeri play host to Leonardo Acori’s Rimini at the Olimpico this Saturday as the championship enters the home straight. The Romagnoli have picked up thirty-four points so far this season and look all set to mount a serious challenge for a play-off place. With two defeats and a draw at home in their last three games they haven’t been in peak form of late, but as the opening phase of Serie B showed, teams always raise their game against Juventus. With 34 goals so far, Acori’s men currently boast the second best scoring record in the league, thanks in part to their attacking 4-2-3-1 formation. Handanovic is an imposing figure in goal, as he showed back in September, but it’s the front four who really stand out.

Behind the lone striker Moscardelli (8 goals) roam three of the league’s most exciting forward players: Valiani, the Brazilian Jeda (8 goals) and the lively Argentinian Adrian Ricchiuti, architect of the team’s opening day comeback against the Bianconeri. Unfortunately for Rimini they’ll be missing the highly impressive Barusso in midfield this Saturday, but it’s Moscardelli and the three musketeers that Juventus will really have to watch out for if they’re going to extend their lead at the top with another three points at home.

:agree: Looks like Legro & Piccolo are going to be the central defence for this game. If they play well, they may be able to keep Boum out, (or at least on the bench).
I´d take Boumsong over Piccolo anyday of the week.

Who´s Rimini? Never heard of them. Piss easy game, 8-0.

Juve play like 2-3 times better at home eh. So I expect a certain win and a Bianconeri show at the Olimpico tomorrow :eyebrows:
