Serie A without Juve (2 Viewers)

i read that a while back and apparently serie A has been on the down for a few years now. Apparently the highest attendances were way back in 1998.

If any of u guys have ESPN, and watch soccernet presspass.You could remember Janus Michalik claiming that watching serieA "recently" is like watching fresh paint dry.

For me nothing has changed in regards to style of play since the year 2000(when i had actually the channels to watch the football). And it cannot possibly due to the football.

imo its due to the hooliganism, it doesnt seem like a safe environment to be going to the games.
I remember Paul (from this forum , for those who dont know) saying that there were juve fans fighting with eachother in the juve-napoli game from the Coppa.

Just shows i guess.

Its not surprising at all...Juventus is by far the most supported Italian club in the world. Jamaicans love italian football mainly because of the successes of teh bianconeri. Serie A owes a large portion of it's popularity to the global appeal of Juve. Demoting "the Old Lady" was a definite shot on the leg for the league. nobody cares much about Serie A now in fact Serie B is getting all the attention....thanks to Juve. Anywhere Juve plays will automatically get a lot of attention and press. As a matter of fact if i was a Inter or Milan fan or any a fan of any other team in A this year, i wouldnt want my team to win the scudetto in a league lacking it's best team.

MLS has breakaway penalty shots as opposed to an actual shot; how can this bacala claim shit when people in North America (that includes Canada) cannot even play soccer normally? Basically that's what I was trying to say. If you still don't get it, fuggidaboudit.

It is glad for me to see that Juve is recognized as a Serie A magnet for spectators.

Here in Croatia, no matter how my friends dislike Juventus, they say Serie A is nt the same and not attractive without Juve.

There is no spirit, no competition.

It´s funny how Juventus is respected even by Milan and Roma, the two of our big rivals, and that the only Club who doesn´t miss Juve is Inter.

I guess its less a matter of style of play and more into economics, perhaps a touch of politics.

EPL wasn't really viewed as a competitive league, then in the beginning of this century, they started making huge marketing campaigns including getting ESPN to stop serie A coverage while at the same time overflow it wit EPL. Everyday people would hear EPL teams' names and become familiar with them.
Many new soccer viewers had less of a choice, and I think became very attached to it. So much so that Abrmovich considered it a good prospect to buy Chelsea.

Serie A lost out on the economic side, and marketing. ESPN as an english based channel would no doubt favor EPL ahead of Serie A anyways. Its not about the brand of football at all IMO.

Add that to Juve bieng in Serie B, and fans no longer are interested in the league, even my Milanista fans aren't too keen about following the League, "t seems pale without Juve to compete with."
