they are not only paid for playing matches. pro players get paid for the hard training sessions they do every day, and the constant travelling. they are also kept in extreme pressure, specially players who play for big teams.

i remember zidane saying that he cant keep up with the training methods in juve when he first joined, he even tried to quite  and go back to marseille!! same goes for robert when he joined newcastle.

if you compare those salaries to what pop stars and hollywood actors get - like me:D - then its not that huge.

Relatively average wages compared to elsewhere.
Highest earner only £68k per week before tax.... not overly high(IMO)!!
I love the new name paul, excellently done.

In my dreamland everyone would get the same salary at the beginning and then they would get bonuses depending on how many games they played and how well they played and how much did they contribute to the team's success.

Anyway, this figures could mean a lot more if we got them for La Liga or EPL as well ... or at least for the "stars" ... anyone has an idea how much Becks, ZZ, Raul, Figo, Giggs, Veron, R. Carlos, Henry etc. earn?

BTW, does Juve own DP's marketing rights or Alessandro himself?

Thats true erik... but that doesnt change the point that the wages in themselves are not overly high for there proffesion.
You are right. Wages in the world of sports have always been a disputeable issue of course as careers don't last as long as 'normal' careers do and so it wouldn't be more than normal that wages are higher than average. Where that border lies is open to discussion and a very difficult issue...

The fact that almost all players wages across the world are too high is not at issue... of course they are!!

Also in the case of italy, the prresent wages are not so much the cause of problems.... more the sustained high wage rate over a long period.... Italy have been far over paying for many years whereas the epl and la liga have only recently started matching (and passing) italian salaries.
Teams like MANU and ARsenal had a wage cap throughout the high paying italian period... keeping them in good profit and as such now have money to burn and are reaping the rewards whilst others are in crisis.

Unfortunately italy opened itself to these practices and have taken far to long to realise the damage they are doing to themselves.

Whereas others, eg. the much maligned MANU have been managed perfectly when it comes to financial matters.
REalising the dangers, being tight and looking into as many money making ventures and big money far east tours for many many years whilst others jus stood and watched themselves fall.
For all the bad things about MANU their financial prowess is second to none.

Some call them 'merchandise united' as an insult... I say its a compliment and hopefully for the sake of our fine club we will follow suit!!
something we appear to be doing... with extended merchandising and newly arranged tours and tie ins
It's about time the managers stood up and realised Juve cannot afford to be run like your average football club but needs to be run like a decent business. I wasn't all too familiar with the measures of Manchester United but from what you say, it sounds like they have used the right tactics to straighten the balance.

It sounds like a good system to work with bonuses, Nina but how would you put such a system into practice? You mention paying out bonuses depending on how many games players play but the coach determines that so that hardly seems fair...
In the world of football, the payment-suiting-made-effords rule barely stands a chance unless you reform it I'm afraid...

BTW, does Juve own DP's marketing rights or Alessandro himself?
If he's got a good agent, he owns the rights himself... I'm not sure on that one however!

I think here is the total sum they earned. (the wages from clubs + the commercial rights + ...etc.)

I remember I read it from some where (France Football?? not sure.....) that Totti got more :greedy: from Roma:rolleyes::totti::yuck: than DP by Juve, and Vieri is also got more paid by Inter than DP. But DP got more sponsors, that's why he is the highest. (Yeah! People just love him sooo much.:star:)

And that's also why Nakata earned so much than ppl think. He got many sponsors in Japan. Even Parma gets profit by having him. The Parma tricots are sold well in Japan now.

Btw, In 2000, "Fortune" made a research about Serie A Player Salaries:

The result :
the best investments top 2 players are ZZ and DP.:thumb:
the worst investment is Recoba.:LOL::LOL:

No player owns their rights!
Cant remember the exact figure but DP gets in the region of a 5% cut of his rights.
Same percentage as Becks gets.
Also worth noting that DP was the first player to ever include an image cut in his contract.

Another point is that Players like DP do not earn too much as his merchandising basically pays his wages.... he costs virtually nothing in real terms... its the small players that cost money as they dont bring in much

Lazio players to receive unpaid wages before Christmas

ROME, (AFP) - The players of cash-strapped Italian first division club Lazio will receive their unpaid wages before Christmas, a board member said Tuesday following a shareholders' meeting. The team have not been paid for more than three months because the club is crippled by heavy debts and has been put up for sale by its major shareholder.
"They will be paid before Christmas, maybe in the next few days," lawyer Ugo Lungo said.

At the meeting Lazio's shareholders also approved plans to increase the clubs capital by 80 million euros.

It is belived several banks are willing to offer loans to prevent the club from suffering the same fate as former Serie A giants Fiorentina who went out of business at the end of last season after being declared bankrupt.

Despite their money worries Lazio are currently second in Serie A, a point behind leaders AC Milan.

Great to hear that Paranoia.

TO asnwer DPA's question: Why is it that Bati-no-more-gols gets paid more than hard working players like Thuram,Cafu and J. Zanetti?

Answer: He's an attacker. Apart from a few exceptions, attacking players are the most popular players in the game today. Thats why the golden boot/golden ball always goes to attackers/playmakers or the such. Sad but true...
