12/12/2002. The December 4th edition of Italian newspaper 'L'Avvenire' published an extremely interesting investigation on the player Salaries of each of the 18 Serie A teams.

It is important to note that what you see here are the yearly installments in Euros that the players get after taxes.

For each team the highest ten and lowest two salaries are shown.

In Italy the player with the highest salary is Alessandro Del Piero, who earns 5.5 million Euros a year. Next in line is Cristian Vieri, followed by the trio composed by Rivaldo, Batistuta, and Nesta. Then come, in order, Recoba, Shevchenko, Inzaghi, Rui Costa, and Totti.

Wow, some of them look like a real waste of money...

ATALANTA:

Taibi 0.80 - top earning star?

CHIEVO:
no Bierhoff here?

COMO:
Carbone 0.8 - scored how many this year? 0?

J.Zanetti 2.2 - underpaid capitano? :D

JUVENTUS:
Salas 3.8
Thuram 4.5 - wouldn't call it a waste by yikes
Trezeguet 3 - compare to Matador's wage
Camoranesi 0.6 - underpaid?

LAZIO
Simeone 2.8 - waste of space and cash, nuff said

MODENA
Sculli 0.1 - :star:;)

PARMA
Nakata 4.2 - what does he do to deserve double or more than everyone else? Doesn't even score goals :groan:

REGGINA
Nakamura 0.6 - Sacchi, sell Nakata to ManU and get Nakamura

ROMA
Batistuta 5 - not on his current form I don't think so...
Cafù 2 - same as J. Zanetti, underpaid top performer and key player
Cassano 1.7 - I'm surprised it's not more than that

Samuel 2.2

UDINESE
Jancker 0.7 - a bit steep...

Please DO tell me you're a millionaire with extremely rich parents and used to these amounts of money?!
first bit - no comment, 2nd bit - no my parents have never been rich, 3rd bit - no comment

The point was more that compared to other places the salaries arnt that high... when you think a useless piece of crap like sol campbell reportedly earns £105K per week after tax!!

That may have sounded differently then I intended ... sorry :)

What I meant was that salaries are supposed to rise in our market economy. Rise to the point where they hit the roof and the business that employs the employees can no longer afford it.

That leaves the business in question with two options: fire employees or lower wages.

The current financial troubles in the world of football suggest we have about hit that roof in player salaries. Thus they are overpaid.

And that's my point basically (I apologize for the lame explanation - I have never been good at explaining :))

Thats true erik... but that doesnt change the point that the wages in themselves are not overly high for there proffesion.

The fact that almost all players wages across the world are too high is not at issue... of course they are!!

Also in the case of italy, the prresent wages are not so much the cause of problems.... more the sustained high wage rate over a long period.... Italy have been far over paying for many years whereas the epl and la liga have only recently started matching (and passing) italian salaries.
Teams like MANU and ARsenal had a wage cap throughout the high paying italian period... keeping them in good profit and as such now have money to burn and are reaping the rewards whilst others are in crisis.

Unfortunately italy opened itself to these practices and have taken far to long to realise the damage they are doing to themselves.

Whereas others, eg. the much maligned MANU have been managed perfectly when it comes to financial matters.
REalising the dangers, being tight and looking into as many money making ventures and big money far east tours for many many years whilst others jus stood and watched themselves fall.
For all the bad things about MANU their financial prowess is second to none.

Some call them 'merchandise united' as an insult... I say its a compliment and hopefully for the sake of our fine club we will follow suit!!
something we appear to be doing... with extended merchandising and newly arranged tours and tie ins

I think the problem is not overpaying players, its not balancing their wage-bill.

Camo gets 0.6, while salas gets 3.8 trez gets 3 its unbalanced.

well if you look at it, the only solution is getting paid according to performance. we're doing that for our coach, why not for our players too??

some comments here, if i may add:

1. camo gets only 0.6 because its basically the same contract that he had with verona last year. no one expected him to rise like that.

2. nakata earns 4.2 because of his image. he attracts many japanese fans to the club.

3. campbell earns £105K because he was a free agent. no fees paid to his former club for the contract, and thus his salary gets a push. but i believe this figure is suspicous, are you sure shadowfax thats the right number?
