I would put Olivera behind the strikers position

--------------Buffon
Zebina-Thuram-Canna-Zambro
Camoranesi-Emerson-Blasi
-------------Olivera
--------Zlatan----DP

Hope we can score 2 goals.
I would love to see that formation.
Gazzetta has the following probable line up.
1 Buffon
27 Zebina
21 Thuram
4 Montero
28 Cannavaro
19 Zambrotta
16 Camoranesi
8 Emerson
20 Blasi
10 Del Piero
9 Ibrahimovic

So could we be looking at :
--------------Buffon
Zebina-Thuram-Canna-Montero
Camoranesi-Emerson-Blasi-Zambro
--------Zlatan----DP

5-3-2 ? Thats a bit too defensive dont you think ? And I'm pretty sure we'll need as much goals as we can against Messina

Why isn't Nedved playing ? Last time I checked he was already training with the rest of the team no ? How much longer does he need ?

Oh I'm gonna have a nervous breakdown. Whoever created CL is a genius and also an arse

trez has fever, neddy still isn't fit enough, cap just doesn't want to risk him because of the bernabeu-game. i don't believe if we can find out how the teams gonna start in madrid. luxemburgo will make also several changes, he's not that typical "let's just score one goal more than the opponent" madrid-trainer. it's also gonna be a big tactical match.
i'm a bit afraid, have a bad feeling about todays match, for me, it seems to be a draw.
show them ale

Why does everyone think that 5-3-2 is too defensive? The concept of this system is that we're tight, compact and hard to break down with five defenders making it difficult when the opposition is in possession and in attack the formation transforms with the full backs playing wide midfield roles in a 3-5-2.

From Gazzetta:

It says that Capello is considering two formations, the 5-3-2 and the 4-4-2. If he opts to go with the latter either Olivera will play on the left side of midfield or Zambrotta will operate there with Pessotto playing left back. I personally want to see how a 5-3-2 would suit us.

Capello rings the changes
Saturday 19 February, 2005

Without Pavel Nedved and David Trezeguet, Fabio Capello admits he’s considering another tactical experiment in Messina today.

“I have a few ideas in my mind, but it all depends on the players at my disposal,” said the Juventus boss. “I can say that Alessandro Del Piero will start, but I’m keeping the rest under wraps.”

There are reports that the 3-4-3 system used against Udinese last week can be revived with Marcelo Zalayeta taking over from the Frenchman, or Ruben Olivera could be played out wide.

Trezeguet is ruled out by a bout of flu, but Nedved’s knee injury has kept him out for several weeks and it’s increasingly unlikely he’ll be able to start in Madrid next Tuesday.

“Pavel is getting better and we’ll evaluate his condition on Sunday,” explained Capello ahead of the Champions’ League clash with Real. “If he is in full training then he’ll make the trip to Spain.”

First of all, the Bianconeri must get a positive result at Messina to ensure they keep Milan off their trail as the Serie A lead has been cut to just two points.

“Messina are a dangerous side, especially on home turf, and they can be very effective on the counter-attack. My players know that two points are a slim lead and won’t be distracted by the upcoming European tie.”

The Sicilians lost their last home game 4-1 to Milan, but that was only their second defeat of the season at the Stadio San Filippo after Lecce’s Week 7 result.

Why does he always insist in Pessotto ? I've always thought that Biri is better. His freekicks are better, his crosses are better, he's better for attacking and not much less behind Pessotto in defence.

I am personally interested in how Blasi will fare in these kind of matches should he play.

I too prefer Birindelli to Pessotto, but perhaps the latter is better on the left. I've always thought Biri to be a much better right back than left.

Pessotto over Birindelli:stuckup:

Gianluca is better at defending, more dependable and is an excellent crosser as well.Birindelli may have a mean shot and is adept at freekicks, but we have alot of other players for that.Besides,Birindelli ain't as good on the left.

Agreed. Birindelli is better on the right, Pessotto on the left.
