Serie A May Be Postponed For A Month !! (4 Viewers)

The start of the Serie A season could be sensationally postponed for a month in an effort to help clubs sort out their finances.

The idea was put forward by Antonio Matarrese and has received backing from Roma chief Franco Sensi and Atalanta's Ivan Ruggeri.

Sensi has even gone on record as saying that he believes the new season will start in October and not September.

This is the kind of near sighted talk that lets Italian clubs suffer in Europe and doesnt help the natoinal team either as by the time most nations have been fine tuned in the new season as they would have started in August, the Italian clubs would only have played in friendlies and be4 u know it 2 of them are out in Cl, and probably in Uefa as well because of shortness of match practise. Its incredible how they never learn from anything

Don't worry guys, nothing is official YET .. this was just a suggestion, I don't think it will happen coz the teams have already arranged friendlies with other teams to prepare for September and not October, many things will get confused.


SerieB may be potponed, because unlike SerieA, the teams in SerieB are having alot of financial troubles.

Well I guess the mercato would be open longer (which means more time to get some money with selling the players) and I also read that clubs will get accountants from US to deal with their financies, so that might take some time :undecide:

They should stick to September, since it's about time they show something to Europe, on a club and also on a national level, and postponing the start of the home league would be a major handicap!

Then if these guys really get the postponement,then the CL matches will clash even sooner with the Serie a then our players will have to get in to top shape even sooner.man,this is NOT good.

This is exactly what happened two years ago with all the red cards. We hardly got any Serie A action before the CL went into the group stage, we were seemingly unprepared. At that time it was because of the Olympics.

The Italian Football League has confirmed that the Serie A season will kick-off on September 1, 2002.

There were fears that the season could be delayed by a month due to the continuing cash crisis but that seems to not be the case.

"The new Serie A season will start as first thought on September 1," said League President Adriano Galliani. "And the fixture lists will be released on August 1."

Thanx Anna, but doesn't it set these ppl up for contoversy, if its seen that Milan are getting preferential treatment.It just seems silly that in a league where cotroversy is rife and ppl are always accusing eachother, the president is also the transfer guru for a leading contender to the scudetto. What happens if a refereeing decision goes against his club what will he do?
