Maybe 14 was the age when he entered the youth squad? The news on Juventus.com (which I can't find now) said something like he entered Juventus Football School in 1996. I don't know about the Italian football youth system.

Entering a Juve school at 8 doesnt necessarily mean he is part of our set up from 8, til 14, which was when he officially signed up for a contract for our youth academy.

Not everyone goes up the age group ladder in orderly fashion year after year. He had a tryout with Torino some time before he signed up for our academy for real at 14.
