There are fears tomorrow’s big game at the Stadio Via del Mare will be postponed after the arena was flooded.

Southern Italy is currently under heavy rainfall and it has been pouring down on Lecce since Friday night. A fifth of the Stadium is flooded and at least a metre of water is covering the tunnel leading back to the locker rooms.

Workmen are trying to pump the water out of the affected areas, but the state of the pitch is a more complex matter.

Weather reports are not looking good, so there will be a pitch inspection on Sunday morning to determine whether or not the game can go ahead.

This was set to be the highlight of the Week 13 calendar, as leaders Juventus travel to face Zdenek Zeman’s fourth-placed Lecce.

Zdenek Zeman bisbiglia ma le sue parole arrivano lontano. Il tecnico del Lecce accende come solo lui sa fare la vigilia dell'attesa sfida contro la Juve, sua vecchia nemica. L'argomento? Il doping. Eccolo parlare di Alex Del Piero e non va per il sottile.

“Io non ce l’ho con Del Piero – ha detto in conferenza stampa – lui non è un colpevole ma una vittima. Visto che il doping ha fatto passi in avanti credo che si possano anche oggi fare cose pericolose. Il calcio è cambiato molto ma i problemi sono sempre gli stessi sia nel doping che nei bilanci della società”.

Zeman parla anche della gara, non rinunciando a stuzzicare la Juve: "Ho convocato anche Konan perchè l'anno scorso fece due gol alla Juve. Magari vedendolo si spaventano e così può darsi che facciamo più paura".

Zdenek Zeman has again turned on Juventus ahead of Sunday’s clash, claiming Alex Del Piero is “a victim” of the Turin giants.


The controversial Coach sparked law suits and a legal investigation into Juve’s medical staff after telling newspapers he was amazed at the sudden muscular development of players such as Del Piero and Gianluca Vialli.


“I have no problem with Del Piero personally,” assured Zeman ahead of tomorrow’s crunch match. “He and the other players are not guilty of anything, as they are victims rather than perpetrators.”


These statements are sure to cause yet more problems for the Lecce boss, who first made similar allegations six years ago.


“Football has changed a lot since 1998, but the problems remain the same, both in terms of doping and the financial well-being of clubs.”


Nonetheless, Zeman tried to concentrate on the match between the Serie A leaders and high-flying Southerners.


“This is not a game between Zeman and Juventus,” he assured, “but rather between Lecce and the Bianconeri. I’ve even called up Axel Konan as he scored two goals against them last season, so perhaps they’ll get scared just by seeing him again.”


There are fears this long-awaited encounter between Serie A’s most prolific teams won’t go ahead at all due to heavy rainfall that flooded the Stadio Via del Mare today.


“I would have wanted to play this game on a perfect pitch,” concluded the former Roma and Lazio Coach, “but unfortunately the weather has not been kind. I hope one day synthetic pitches can be commonplace, as they would solve so many problems.”

Don't know, probably one midweek when there isn't a league/Coppa Italia/CL commitment.

You serve your suspension in the next game, if it isn't against Lecce, it will be against Inter, tough luck, but that's the way it is. :frown:

This guy is a nobody. He never achieved anything. He made a name of himself speaking against Juventus, the best. If you are the enemy of the best you are already less than nothing. When you say bad things about the best, people listen, even if you talk nonsense.

I can see his future, he will keep playing his team as he has done and score a lot of goals (but less at very game), and get many more goals (more at every game).

Lecce will slowly slide towards the bottom and I hope the club does not fire him before Lecce is downgraded to serie B. I would really like this new defeat to appear on his records.

La sfida tra il grande accusatore e la Vecchia Signora. Ogni volta che c'è un incrocio tra Zdenek Zeman e la Juventus la partita assume un significato diverso. Tutte le polemiche avvenute in passato, anche in un passato molto recente, non sono cancellabili. Giochiamo contro una squadra di grandi giocatori e grandi doti tecniche. Zeman è un bravo allenatore e ha sempre fatto bene. I suoi schemi sono colaudati ed anche conosciuti, pero' possono dare risultati maggiori se attuati da giocatori di qualita' come quelli del Lecce. Per noi non sara' una partita semplice.
