Yeah, i 100% agreed with you before the match that we should go all attack and i'm still so sorry we didn't do that.
But there was logic in what Dom suggested before the match. Sampdoria do overcrowd their midfield and they're highly dangerous with Belluci and Cassano (we thought he'll play back then). Putting a man more in midfield was a logical choice.
Samp crowding their midfield doesn't have any bearing on us crowding up their penalty box. If a team crowds their midfield in their half it gives us an opportunity to actually throw more players up top and get the ball to them down the wings as either way it will be tough penetrating through the center of their midfield. Since we know Samp would be playing for a draw, the way we could exploit all the facts in hand is by fielding three strikers and keeping them on their knees.

There might be logic in fielding another midfielder in this case, but there is far more logic in playing to our strengths, testing Samp's defense with a trident.

But we didn't have that fuckin man and of course we had to put Salihamidzic there to offer defensive cover at the center of the midfield (??????????????).

Nedved is in great form. If he had 3 players in front of him everything coould have been different.
What a shame.
Agreed.

We had 2 center midfielders on the bench and Ranieri doesn't change anything till the 80th min, it was Zanetti vs the samp midfield. Almiron did more in those 10 mins than Salihamidzic did for the whole match.

Last 30 mins of the game it was our back 4 on one forward, have some balls Ranieri, we are playing at home expecting a win and you do nothing. Taking off Del Piero and losing all our creativity and then playing Nedved in the center, where as on the wing he was our only player causing the defence any problems.

Trying to play long balls in the second half did nothing but help Samp, there was no movement or creativity in midfield which forced us to play long balls which not one of them was effective, if your gonna play long balls learn how to pass the ball first, which none of our defenders of midfielders can do consistently.

NOTE TO RANIERI: Next training session do nothing but crossing the ball then we might get somehere
really ? i didn't like almiron in that short period of time that he got. He definitely didn't give me the impression that he should have started this game.

The one pass forward that he did give (towards nedved i believe) was clearly desperate and a sign of no confidence.

but folks, lets keep the bashing when he doesn't perform, he played good today, lets be honest.
:agree: credit where its due, Molinaro was good today, a disaster in midweek but he got forward well, was one of our most dangerous players and stopped a lot of balls getting into the box (something he doesnt usually do).

one problem though is that he never seems to get close enough to his man when the other team is attacking, they always manage to play it behind him. He recovers well, but against better teams he may get punished.

Milan have three games in hand and if they win them they are just one point behind us.
this is exactly what i have been saying all season, we need to just concentrate on getting in the CL, milan will come back at us and fiorentina have got over their loss of form. We need to maintain our advantage!

What did Salihamidzic do for 80 mins beside giving away free kicks, at least Almiron was in the center of the pitch where a center mid should be getting invold and trying to dictate the play. Whats the point of playing a winger in central midfield when there are two center mids on the bench which need playing time insteed of bench warming time.

two things I know for sure:

- Molinaro is in no way an offensive threat

- Grygera is in no way a CB
And you were proved wrong on both of those points today. good job.
Molinaro was like always superb going forward. His crossing left some to be desired but on the bright he was great defensively which is probably the first time this season. I think Grygera is fine as a CB and would prefer him there over the wing.

my thoughts on our players.

Buffon- Had nothing to do all day impossible to judge.

Birindelli- Suprisingly he wasn't bad. Slow and shouldn't be a starter yet he did push forward and try to help out. Must have been kidding himself when he tried the bicycle kick shot.

Leggro- Another good performance yet he was given a little trouble by Bonazzoli. He has been important this season and i hope juve get Barzagli next season so they can have a partnership and Chiellini can rampage on the wing.

Grygera- A better CB than RB in my opinion. much better option than Boumsong and a good addition since he was free. should be a good squad player but not a starter.

Molinaro- Juve's best player out there today and despite his dreadful game against Empoli does not deserve all of the criticisms against him. Molinaro is excellent going forward and to be honest i think he would be better used as a left midfielder. But due to our defensive woes we need him as a LB and he certainly did his job today. Despite a few clumsy challenges he was great defending today also and i only see improvement out of him and am excited to see what he will be like next season. Blatantly fouled in the second half and deserved a pk.

Marchionni- really should have won us the game in the first half yet other than that he had a great first half. He deserves a bigger role at juve and is a very underrated player. He is always willing to take on defenders and could serve as an excellent replacement for Neddy next season. There are rumors linking him with palermo but i really hope he stays. If he can continue to perform well for the next few months the Don should keep an eye open.

Zanetti- Was his usual defensive self yet he needs a creative central partner. He is no attacking midfielder and juve desperately need one yet whoever they sign, Zanetti could probably make a good partnership alongside him.

Brazzo- I'm glad we got him over the summer as it seems he really can play anywhere he is needed. He never gives up and constantly runs with the ball yet his passing and crossing are poor. he does alot of useless running and really made a fool out of himself against Empoli. An ok backup yet certainly juve will need better starters.

Nedved- Although his diving annoys me and still glad to see the golden wonder boy in our shirt. He has lost the pace he once had yet he never stops trying. A real midfield battler and i hope he decides to be our Maldini and play until hes 40.

Del Piero- despite lacking his usual creativity and skills today DP was our only link between the midfield and trezegol. The miss of the game was not Marchionni's blast over the goal it was Ranieri's choice to put in Iaquinta.

Trezegol- Got involved outside the box and it was good to see his movement. Has not had his shooting boots on for a while now and he needs to prove he belongs in the starting 11.

Iaquinta- Very poor game. I was reminded of his nightmare Germany form which i don't care what anybody says Iaquinta was shit in the WC.

Almiron- Very much impressed me in the last 10 minutes. His passes were excellent and when he was on was the only time in the 2nd half we had a link to trezegol. Although we can't just start him after 10 minutes i think getting rid of Almiron would be foolish, maybe a loan deal?

Tiago- I know he didn't play but i just wanted to say the sooner we get rid of him the better.

From Reuters:

David Trezeguet had a double effort cleared off the line with television replays being inconclusive about whether the second chance had gone in.

"It is difficult to decide with this image," Juve boss Claudio Ranieri told Sky television when showed a replay. "Sampdoria defended with order and we tried everything."
Was it that debatable??

Let the slide down the table begin....

I will keep this short and sweet, as it seems like we are talking about the same things over and over again each week

Before I do, let me pose this question to everyone here, and lets all take a few moments to think about this, and how bad things are becoming-

We had an outside midfielder/fullback playing in the center of the midfield today while two expensive central midfield signings were sitting on the bench....what the fuck do we have going on here ??

On to the game, and there's plenty of blame to go around today-

- we could blame Marchionni for the absolute miss of the season, that I'm pretty confident any of us could have and would have converted (even donnanocerino :p )

- we could blame the ref for not awarding us at least one penalty for the two that he waved off...I saw much weaker ones awarded in the last few weeks to Fiorentina

BUT, the biggest blame for this pathetic performance is SOLELY on the back of one Claudio RUINeri

Could someone please explain to me WHY DP was subbed off at halftime, when EVERYONE knew the right move would have been replacing Brazzo with Iaquinta, and switching to a 4-3-3 ??

Its bad enough we couldnt find the net in the first half (see Marchionni), and we continue to try to play like a half-fast EPL team, but after DP was wrongly subbed out, we had NO effectiveness in the second half, and resorted to a bullshit long-ball game, which never works !!

The only positive from todays game was that Cassano didnt play, and thankfully our defense was never tested !!

2 things need to happen NOW to ensure CL qualification for next season-

1) We need Diego or VDV NOW to help this midfield

2) We need to sack RUINeri NOW !!!!

otherwise, this will be a wasted season, as we will finish 5th or 6th

brazzo was omnipresent. i'm not saying he had a great game but besides playing in his unusual dm position you could also find him on the wing participating in attack. actually i don't really blame him anything as i'm convinced that almiron wouldn't have brought anything offensively. he has really low confidence, even tiago is more capable.

Sampdoria's attacking options were out for this game, our defense looked better then is should. We have defensive problems still. They had nothing to do today and we still need a quality defender this window. Inter will humiliate the one we have now.

Agreed, good post. We do talk about these things every week and it won't be until we are out of Champions League territory when some people finally acknowledge the fact Ranieri is messing up big time.

And by the way, we can't blame the ref in this case. Those were not penalties, especially the first one.

we lose much of our backbone without camo and chiellini. we're lacking creativity without the former

even under capello we were lacking creativity without zlatan (with camo and nedved on the field). we're still predictable with or without camo. that's because we have no AMC.

The only way to get confidence back is to play, this wasn't a game which we were always under pressure, we needed someone in midfield the could dictate the play, as soon as Salihamidzic had the ball he kicked long, especially in the last 20 mins

I agree its a good post Vinman except the pk part. Please use your eyes and dont be so biased. They were perfectly correct decisions. Not close to being controversial. Just because refs make bad decisions elsewhere doesnt mean others shouldnt do their job properly.

The ref was exemplary in this game.

The only reasons I can think why Ranieri would sub Del Piero is to save him for Inter in mid week, or he'd taken a knock and asked to be subbed. If RC subbed him for the good of the team, then he really is clueless.

Ranieri after the match : "We want to challenge for the Scudetto, but that is because it is in the DNA of this club.”

The last thing i'd talk after this match is a scudetto challenge and the winning mentality of Juve.
