Juventus captain Del Piero: Only victory counts against Inter Milan

Alessandro del Piero is confident Juventus can shock Inter Milan this weekend - and insists he can play on beyond the end of his current contract.

The Juve captain declared: "The rivalry has been fierce for years, but this time it is the most tense of all, it's almost like we're playing for the Scudetto.

"We have a greater conviction which makes us superior. There's no signs for anyother outcome than victory."

Del Piero added: "I feel in great shape, I do not see why I should consider retiring at the end of my current contract."

Moratti: "They are the ones who are looking forward to it more. For us it is a traditionally important game, but what matters is the league and each game is worth three points. We are not giving one game priority over an other."

David Trezeguet: "We have waited for this game for one year. Obviously, we want to do well, for ourselves, the fans, the league."

Claudio Ranieri: "Indeed we tackle the blue-blacks in the best possible form. We respect Inter, but will try to beat them to make the league more interesting."

Moratti fans Juve flames

Inter chief Massimo Moratti has stirred controversy ahead of the Derby d’Italia by discussing the aftermath of the Calciopoli scandal.

The two bitter rivals clash at the Stadio Olimpico after a year’s hiatus caused by the Old Lady’s exile to Serie B.

When Juve were demoted, Inter stepped in to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira – a move that many Juventini resented.

“Ibrahimovic and Vieira were up for sale and we made an offer that was in keeping with their market value,” Moratti stated.

“We didn’t take advantage of their problems and they thanked me for that. The Juventus fans have suffered due to Calciopoli, but we were the real victims of the last 10 years.”

Inter looked formidable as they destroyed Genoa 4-1 and Moratti has called for the same spirit in Turin.

“I want to see the same performance as we gave on Wednesday,” he declared. “We were determined and spectacular.

“Furthermore, we were without the backbone of our side in Julio Cesar, Marco Materazzi, Vieira and Ibrahimovic.

“We don’t have to fear anyone. Our main rivals are Roma and Milan, but Fiorentina and Juventus deserve respect.”

Iaquinta: Inter Are The Favourites But We’ll Trouble Them

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta admits that Inter are favourites for this Sunday’s Derby d’Italia but says that the Bianconeri can cause them real problems.

The Nerazzurri are looking like a powerful machine at the moment and are unbeaten at the top of Serie A with seven wins and three draws from ten games.

The Bianconeri are also going well and sit just four points behind their bitter rivals in third place.

“On paper Inter are stronger because they have many champions and can even afford to send a player like Adriano into the stands,” said Iaquinta.

“However we are not far behind them and can give them trouble.

“The championship is really balanced and there are a lot of teams very close to one another.

“The teams that haven’t performed up to expectations so far have been Parma and Milan, however Udinese and Fiorentina have been the positive surprises.

“Inter are the number one team after 10 games, however we will fight until the end.”

Moratti: Inter Are The Victims, Not Juventus

Inter President Massimo Moratti has turned up the heat ahead of this Sunday’s Derby d’Italia by saying that it is the Nerazzurri and not Juventus who have been the real victims over the past 10 years

The Calciopoli crisis in 2006 hit Juventus hard, revoking two of their Scudetti and demoting them to Serie B.

Inter on the other hand were the major benefactors of the scandal, as it enabled them to buy two of the Bianconeri’s world class players in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira.

Many argue that the only reason Inter are the powerful force that they are today is because of Calciopoli. Until last season the Nerazzurri had not won the Scudetto since 1989 and were painted as a comically-run club of losers by the Italian press.

Moratti however is furious at these claims and says that it is Inter who were always the victims.

“I understand that Juventus are very angry with what has happened and in your rival there is always an easy scapegoat,” said the millionaire oil baron.

“However you must remember that they blundered. The true and real victims of the last ten years has been Inter.”

Moratti continued to stoke up the pressure ahead of Sunday’s big match by saying that Juventus thanked him for buying Ibrahimovic and Vieira off them.

“Ibrahimovic and Vieira were on the market and we presented them with an important offer,” said the President.

“We did not take advantage of Juventus, indeed they thanked me for buying the players.”

The Bianconeri fans have never truly understood why their club would have wanted to strengthen one of their bitterest rivals in such a way.

The National:
Juve's lust for revenge and Inter Milan's will to cement their supremacy are the main ingredients of a high-tension Serie A tie set for late Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

Some of the protagonists have tried with little success to play down a showdown that fans, Juve's in particular, have been waiting more than one year for.

"They are the ones who are looking forward to it more," said Inter president Massimo Moratti. "For us it is a traditionally important game, but what matters is the league and each game is worth three points. We are not giving one game priority over an other."

The long-time rivalry between the two clubs escalated in the summer of 2006, when a corruption trial sentenced Juve to relegation and awarded the title they had just won to Inter, who then retained it in the past season as the black-whites played in the Serie B.

"We have waited for this game for one year," said Juve striker David Trezeguet, who geared up for the affair with a hat-trick against Empoli in a mid-week round. "Obviously, we want to do well, for ourselves, the fans, the league."

With the Frenchman leading the scorers' table on 10 goals, internationals Vincenzo Ianquinta and Mauro Camoranesi returning from injury and mainstay Pavel Nedved ending a suspension, Juve feel they are in good shape for the game.

"Indeed we tackle the blue-blacks in the best possible form," coach Claudio Ranieri said. "We respect Inter, but will try to beat them to make the league more interesting."

After dominating the previous season, Inter sit top once again this year with 24 points from 10 games, four notches above Juve.

Roberto Mancini misses Dejan Stankovic and Patrick Vieira in midfield and may have to keep using third goalkeeper Paolo Orlandoni as Julio Cesar nurses a back pain and Francesco Toldo recovers from a broken foot.

Second-placed Roma won the city derby over Lazio to remain three points clear of Inter. On Sunday afternoon they face an away game at Empoli after which they'll become one-time fans of Juve along with Fiorentina.

The Florence side lie level with Juve on 20 points ahead of a game at Lazio Saturday and hope to improve their standing like Udinese, on 18 points when they visit bottom side Livorno.
