I think you are the first person I've ever encountered who's had something bad to say about Chievo.

Looks like I have to re-read "A Season with Verona", because I remember very little mention about Chievo in the book.
Parks only seemed to want to talk about the other Verona club - Hellas Verona.

It was a while since I last read it, but I can't remeber any references to Chievo.

Yes, there was very little mention about Chievo in the book because Parks did not want to ruin the memories of Hellas with mention of the Donkeys being promoted to Serie A. But in one chapter he goes off on his city rivals, saying they are just a puppet club made from money but without any real supporting group. Parks also alludes to the death of Hellas due to the fact that Chievo would be promoted to Serie A while the Gialloblu were struggling in the relegation zone. Right now Hellas is just an average or below average club in Serie B.

But yes, there is indeed mention of Chievo in the book...

At the same time, I could imagine someone writing a book about Juve having to take necessary digs at our cross-town rivals in Torino. Just as I'd expect the same from someone writing about Milan, Inter, Lazio, Roma, etc...

In fact, if it was Lazio or Roma, half the book would probably be dedicated to mudslinging.

Vinnie, amico mio:

Is there a place on the web that does the same thing for Serie A that UEFA does for CL?

to be honest, I was just messing around with the computer yesterday, and came across RAI-SPORT Satellite, and saw most of the game

I cant even remember how I got there now......

The championship for Juventus will start at Delle Alpi with the match against Chievo, at their fifth consecutive season in Serie A. This fact deserves to be highlighted as the Verona-based club has managed to make their football’s dream adventure come true. Juventus have not certainly helped the Gialloblu stay in Serie A as the Bianconeri have won all the 8 matches played against them and last year too they earned six out of the six points at stake. At Delle Alpi the game was one-way: Zalayeta, Nedved and Ibrahimovic scored an authoritative 3-0 while the return match at the Bentegodi was more struggled and the tie was broken by Olivera.

Looking at the two clubs’ rosters, the music should not change this year either: Juventus seem to be even more solid than last season’s while Chievo have lost some important players like Baronio and most of all Marchegiani who, thanks to his experience, made the team’s defence confident. On paper, the Verona-based team has nothing to lose and they can bring on the pitch humility and determination; the same determination that has always been the secret of Capello’s squads and that has become a way of life for Juventus. The Bianconeri will have one more motivation: to wipe away the unlucky night of the Supercoppa when, despite the final result, “Juventus proved to be a great team”. Word of Father Fabio.

Good luck this season, you're going have to "earn" this scudetto if you win it.
For every scudetto we've won in the past 10 years we've always done it the same way.

How true. Sorry Andy, but we can't take what was written in that book for face value.

    Juventus - Chievo

    Stadio Delle Alpi

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On August 28, Chievo travel to the Stadio Delle Alpi for Juventus' first title defence of the season. The Old Lady will be pitted against a team in transition, who narrowly escaped the relegation play-offs by one point. The Bianconeri will be looking for a convincing victory to illustrate to their title rivals that it is inevitable that the illusive third Scudetto star will soon appear on their jersey.

Last season, Juventus won both home and away, by 3-0 and 1-0 respectively. In fact, Juve have won all of their Serie A meetings since Chievo’s promotion. It was this consistent form, the grinding out of wins away from home, that meant the Bianconeri finished the season in first.

The Flying Donkeys lost many first-team players during the summer, and the jury is still out to whether new Coach Beppe Pillon has brought in players of sufficient enough quality. The responsibility will be handed to proven journeymen such as ex-Juventus midfielder Matteo Brighi to retain their Serie A status.

The champions have spent wisely during the summer on Patrick Vieira (Arsenal) among others, but it is the bolstering of the often fragile squad that has been Juve’s priority. Chievo will not only have to battle a fantastic starting 11, but the Gialloblu will also have to contend with substitutes such as Alessandro Del Piero, Giuliano Giannichedda and the enigmatic Adrian Mutu. Christian Abbiati will start in goal until Gigi Buffon returns in November.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus (probable): Abbiati; Zebina, Thuram, F. Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Vieira, Emerson, Nedved; Trezeguet, Ibrahimovic

Chievo (probable): Fontana; Moro, Mandelli, D’Anna, Lanna; Semioli, Zanchetta, Brighi, Franceschini; Cossato, Pellissier
