Serie A Week 3 - 16/9/07 (14.00 UK)
Juventus-Udinese: Stefano Farina di Novi Ligure

Juventus - Udinese

Stadio Olimpico

When Udinese travel to Turin’s Stadio Olimpico to face Juventus they will be hoping for a massive improvement on their opening performances. In contrast, the home side are one of only two sides to have earned maximum points at this early stage.

Juve have started their return to Serie A in fine form and have earned six points from their two matches, scoring an impressive eight goals in the process. Admittedly Livorno and Cagliari didn’t seem to put up too much of a fight, particularly at the back, but those triumphs will have given Coach Claudio Ranieri and his newly assembled squad plenty of confidence ahead of this fixture. If they can continue to pose the attacking threat they have shown so far, the Udinese defence could find itself being overrun.

The big team news for the Turin-based Bianconeri is the four-match suspension that has been imposed on defender Jonathan Zebina for his red card against Cagliari and the resulting altercation with a television cameraman. That should see veteran Alessandro Birindelli take his place at right-back, while Jean-Alain Boumsong’s absence due to the muscle strain he picked up in his left leg in the friendly against Real Zaragoza leaves Ranieri with little choice but to stick with his central defensive pairing of Domenico Criscito and Jorge Andrade. Similarly, Marco Marchionni’s long-term injury means Mauro Camoranesi’s place on the right-wing is secure.

Udinese boss Pasquale Marino will be rueing the misfortune that sees him without several key players for the tough trip to the Stadio Olimpico. Christian Obodo, Dias Felipe, Giampiero Pinzi and Raffaele De Martino are all injured and highly unlikely to play any role in the game, leaving Marino worryingly short of options, especially in midfield. The good news for Zebrette fans is that the end of Italy international Antonio Di Natale’s contract dispute should see him return to the starting line-up in attack, with Antonio Floro Flores likely to make way.

The Friuli outfit will need to return to the mentality that saw them grind out a crucial point against Inter in Week 1 for this difficult fixture. Just as important will be blocking out the memory of the humiliating 5-0 thrashing they suffered at the hands of newly-promoted Napoli in their first home game of 2007-08. If they produce another performance of that ineptitude then Udinese could find themselves in real trouble against a Juve side that has hit the ground running.

Keep an eye on: David Trezeguet (Juventus) – The Frenchman has continued where he left off in Serie A following a year in the Second Division. He may not be bursting with flair but he knows how to find the net, as shown by the four League goals he has to his name already this season.

Last season: Not played

What Nocerino has an advantage over Camo!!
Cmon.
Camo is the only player in midfield right now who have the skills to produce smthing special,so benching him will just show that Ranieri is Stupid,in the first 2 games he still lacked matches fitness but right now he played 2 games in 4 days & he is fit to start.
If Ranieri wants to play with 3 CM then he should bench Neddy which I doubt,as I said he will prbably play the normal 4_4_2.

Birindelli wont be a smart move especially when they have Di_Natale & Quagliarella on the wings so Saly should satrt as RB every match until Grygera returns.
If you play two games in four days when not fully fit, you will be exhausted.

I won't be at all surprised if Camo doesn't start the game.

Quagliarella, Di Natale and Asamoah is a scary attacking trident, especially when they will be fed balls from D'Agostino in CM. Our defense will get worked, because Birindelli is too old, Chiellini is too aggressive and he plays for an attack minded coach who doesn't help the problem, Andrade has been terribly over-aggressive and Criscito has been left stranded at the back repeatedly. Criscito needs to have an awesome game because he will be left alone with the pressure on him.

I definately want to see Zanetti and Nocerino next to each other in CM for this one. We should have plenty of attack with Camo, Nedved, DP and Trez. Along with Chiellini up the flank.

:agree: Flores-Flores can be lethal too! I don't like him...well, I do, but not when he plays against Juve. I agree that Nocerino-Zanetti is the best midfield choice for this game.

Injuries/suspensions willing I would prefer: -

Buffon
Sali, Andrade/Criscito, Chielini, Molinaro

Nocerino - Zanetti

Camo...............................Neddy

Trez -DP/Iaquinta

(Just my opinion - I expect others' will differ)

If Iaquinta is fit he should start. We need a striker with pace in this game. I have no doubt that Udinese will be hitting us hard wit thier attack since it is their strength. THe best is for us to play a counter attacking game with players such as Almiron and Camo who can feed accurate through crosses and passes to Iaquinta.

Oh NO! NOT Farina!

Our match, against Udinese, at the Olympico, on Sunday, is going to be refereed by Stephano Farina!
He will be assisted by Flaviano Lanciano and Stefano Ayroldi. The fourth official will be Christian Brighi.

Farina's the guy who booked Gigi and sent Neddy off 9 months ago in the 1-1 game against Genoa! (If I remember correctly, he's a Genoa fan and lives approx 20km north of Genoa. )

I'm not sure, but I think this article says that he's refereed 19 Juve matches, resulting in seven victories, nine draws and three defeats for Juve: and 21 Udinese matches resulting in 10 victories, four draws and seven defeats for them. He has refereed one match between Juve and Udinese (at the Fruili) and the result was 1-0 to Juve thanks to a Zalayeta goal.

The other matches have been designated the following referees: -

Lazio-Empoli (Saturday evening, at 20.30pm): De Marco
Fiorentina-Atalanta: Celi
Genoa-Livorno: Dondarini
Inter-Catania: Orsato
Napoli-Sampdoria: Gava
Palermo-Torino: Bergonzi
Reggina-Roma: Rocchi
Parma-Cagliari (Sunday evening at 20.30pm): Mazzoleni
Siena-Milan (Saturday evening, at 18.00pm): Banti

Juventus attempts to continue strong start against Udinese

Turin, Italy (Sports Network) - Juventus has gotten off to a great start in its return to Serie A this season, winning its first two games and scoring eight goals in the process. On Sunday, Juventus will try to make it three wins in three matches when the club hosts Udinese.

David Trezeguet has played a big part in Juve's positive start, with four goals in the club's first two games, including a hat trick in the opener against Livorno.

The French striker should have plenty of chances to increase that total on Sunday against an Udinese side that has struggled to keep the ball out of its own net.

After earning a 1-1 draw at Inter Milan in the first week, which was a great result for the club, Udinese was pounded 5-0 by promoted club Napoli last time out.

Udinese will rely on striker Antonio Di Natale to help with the scoring duties. Di Natale scored both goals in Italy's 2-1 win over Ukraine on Wednesday in EURO 2008 qualifying, and will benefit from the absence of a pair of Juventus defenders.

Jean Alain Boumsong will miss out on the contest due to injury, while fellow defender Jonathan Zebina is serving a four-match ban.

Juventus is one of only two Serie A teams that has won its first two games, and that number should reach three on Sunday.

In Serie A play on Saturday, AC Milan tries to return to the win column after a draw with Fiorentina last time out. The Rossoneri will visit Siena, who is coming off of a 3-0 defeat to Roma. Saturday's other contest features a disappointing Empoli team that has dropped its first two games of the season taking on a Lazio side with two draws to its credit.

Other action on Sunday includes Atalanta, fresh off of a 2-0 win against Parma, visiting Fiorentina, Genoa hosting Livorno, and Catania Calcio, which has two draw in two games, traveling to Inter Milan. Sampdoria tussles with Napoli, Palermo hosts Torino, Cagliari invades Parma and Roma tries to win its third straight game to start the season when they pay a visit to Reggina.

Cobolli Tells Di Natale To Tranquilise Himself

Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has congratulated Antonio Di Natale on his Azzurri heroics but ordered the Udinese striker to remain quiet in Sunday’s Serie A game at the Olimpico.

he Stadio Friuli outfit travel to Turin hoping to end La Vecchia Signora’s 100% start to the season. One man who will have a big say in this is Zebrette hitman Antonio Di Natale.

The ex-Empoli man was the hero for La Nazionale in midweek as his two goals helped Italy to a priceless Euro 2008 qualifying victory in the Ukraine.

“I congratulate Antonio on his goals for Italy, but that is enough goals for him for one week,” joked Gigli.

“The match on Sunday is very important for us. We have begun the season in an excellent manner but I will not be calm until we have reached a certain number of points.

“Against Udinese, well, I hope we will win, not only for this game, but also to put us in good shape before the match with Roma next week.”

The Bianconeri travel to the Eternal City next Sunday in what should prove to be a mouth-watering clash with Luciano Spaletti’s men.

I would like to see this

Buffon
Sali Andrade Chiellini Molinaro
Zanetti
Camoranesi Almiron Tiago Nedved
Trezeguet
Is it the right time to start with Tiago? I think he's better get time to play in the second half , I'd replace him with Rino in this formation

Also benching Crisito will affect him badly, he was replaced last game, that will destory his confidence I think

But I like your startup

Nocerino can replace any of Tiago or Almiron if Juventus are leading. This will give the team a better defensive approach.

As for Criscito he's young and he's aware of benching and replacement, so it's not a big deal.
