Var used the wrong Como player?

Semi automated offside tracks all players with multiple cameras and then uses AI to triangulate the positions of various body points so it's able to determine who the last defender is. In this case it's the shoulder of the defender used in the call that puts him ahead of the circled one.

I think VAR room can't directly override the last man provided by the system for a given frame, and so if they dispute the last man/position data they'd have to do the offside manually with drawn lines instead and you wouldn't get the 3d image.

I think they can override the ball kick point however and therefore decide which frame/position data to use, and for very close calls like the one last night that's where any fuckery would likely take place.

I can’t remember which former player suggested that an offside should only be called if the player’s entire body is ahead of the last defender, not just a leg or arm. Kinda like the goal check technology with the ball having to be all the way past the goal line to be considered a goal.

Marco van Basten has been talking about that for years. Would be better because the toenail offsides are annoying as hell

But something like half a body advantage is too enormous of an advantage to be allowed.

Arsene Wenger has pushed for it several times

Yes for both teams though

Games would become more entertaining. Less stops. Less room for controversial calls.
That would make players like adeyemi be ballon d'or potential winners... Make a "semi offside" through pass from the back and he would out sprint most defenders.

It would turn football into more similar to basketball.

Not even half a body but be reasonable for at least where the feet are. I mean a player shouldnt be ruled offside because of a big nose in offside, shoulder because he is more buffed or was standing in a slightly different way.
Just look at their feet - If there is an offside ok but if not forget all the body parts. Its not as Vlahovic for example used his half shoulder for an advantage.

Rule our offside completely or give more than that - It would cause many goals and less of being sophisticated with the game but push more senseless (in other words will ruin the game I love and will make it with more goals but with less the excitement about each goal.)

We can all say that, but good luck at producing actual rules that would give reasonable and discernable details, ones that have to be easily implemented.

Looking back at the vlahovic disallowed goal, the only rule I'd add to that scenario is : check if the recipient of the ball brings the ball closer to the goal immediately after receiving it or not (up to say 1 or 2 seconds?).

If the receiver immediately runs forward with the ball (or passes the ball to a more advanced position) then it would be an offside, but if he stopped or even ran back then it shouldn't be an offside because the situation produced no advantage.

There, I think I have fixed the rules with such a simple addition... Now I wonder why such a thing hasn't been added.

Motta: "The role of captain must be played everywhere, not only on the pitch: we have many guys who can do it, like Danilo, like Gatti who did it against Como. The captain has to transmit to everyone what we want to be: I have chosen the captain for tomorrow, but you will have to wait to see him on the pitch."

Since Motta likes to play musical chairs with the armband, can we start guessing who its gonna be each game? My guess for tomorrow is Cambiaso.
