Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Firstly Quag's injury...which took the team down to playing with ten men, as amauri, his replacement, is simply not a footballer. he can't pass, cant dribble, can't run, cant head, can't tackle. He is washed up, flotsam on the beach, and someone should just put the fucker out of his and our misery...so down to ten players after 3 minutes.
Then...Big Phil reverted to the self-destructive volatile child he was for most of last season and during the world cup. The problem is his destructive tendencies ruined the game for us, taking our team down to 9 PLAYERS on the pitch. 9 v 11...we were fucked. Didn't stand a chance.
Melo needs to learn. Or to be sold. As no top teams continue with players who kick opponents in the face for fun. Still, on the basis of the last few months, we should keep him, but ANY more of this kind of bullshit, come summer time, he has to be sold. Send him to a team which doesn't have ambition of reaching the upper echelons of domestic and european football. He will be happier there...He must understand how responsible he is for the defeat. And also for the weakened midfield we will now have for what?? 2/3 games??? for the duration of his suspension.
The main problem we had in this game, was playing 9 v 11. Looking at it that way makes it easier to understand and accept the result was down to some shocking misfortune, an individual attack of puerile volatility, Grosso's complete lack of defending the left flank, and mainly...lack of squad depth.
To see la formica atomica do so well, made it easy to compare him with our left winger...Pepe. With Lanzafame gone, maybe Marotta will be tempted to bring back Giovinco??? he was very respectful in staying silent when he scored both goals, especially as he must have been bubbling inside with joy and excitement. A good showing from the lad...
Whilst Sorensen had Giovinco to mark, i don't see the young dane as the main culprit for his goals, I see the main blame going to grosso, who simply does not defend his flank .he is invisible. Another footballer whose time has long finished. Really, for large portions of this match we were literally playing 8 v 11...Sorensen was dragged into the middle, due to grosso not defending his flank, and the whole defence desperately trying to cover...if grosso added much to the offence, i could understand, but he doesn't and didn't.
With this squad, we can get into the champions league, our aims should remain top four, with hopes of 2nd/3rd.
Its painfully obvious that we need:

left back
to get Melo right in the head, or to sell him.
