He is virtually non-existant in the 3-5-2. As good as he is as a proper full back, he equally sucks as a right wing back.

Yup! Isla has not been impressive so far. Sure, he needs time, but I can't think of one reason to bench Licht.

I disagree and I think you're exaggerating.

Lichtsteiner's game isn't about beating his direct opponent (he doesn't have the pace and technique for that). He wins the ball often, plays 1-2's,his stamina and he make runs for 90 min's which often fucks up the shape of the opposition's defence. Isla offers a more direct style and is more technical.

The thing is, when the opposition plays a similar system Licht is forced to play a lot of 1 vs 1 battles which is something he needs to improve on.

I love Lichtsteiner, I think he's one of the most underrated players in our squad.
