Not a bad match today, however not a great one either. I would not say we dominated the match, however we did not look inferior by any stretch. The midfield and the defense looked very solid today, and the only way Atalanta was going to get a goal on the board was if we put the ball in our own net for them, which unfortunately happened. I am not that mad at Capello for the tactics he used, especially since we were without Nedved and Blasi, however Tacchinardi was solid and Olivera filled in nicely for Nedved. Actually no, Olivera's performance just as good as a Nedved performance today. The scoreline is obviously decieving, and it should have ended up 2-0, only if Buffon would have just picked the ball up. We still have work to do offensively though, and Capello will be working on this as we get closer to the Real Madrid match. Personally I see a form improvement from the team in the upcoming weeks before the titanic clash against Real.
Buffon did not have much to do, except punch a few incoming balls out of danger. That was one of his worst performances all season, allbeit because of that mistake. I wish he would have just picked the ball up...
Zebina looked good today, and did not make many mistakes. Hopefully he is getting better, but again it was the worst team in Serie A today...
Thuram was arguably our best player, and made a lot of good tackles and clearing headers. He keeps showing that he is one of the top three defenders in the world. I blame his own goal on Buffon because he should have picked up the ball; it was not an intentional back pass.
Cannavaro was solid as always, another good match.
Zambrotta made some very nice runs up the pitch, especially in the first half, and he combined well with Olivera. He was skipping past Atalanta defenders like they were high school players in some cases.
Camoranesi was alright, however he still gives the ball away too much for my liking. He does create lots of good opportunities, so in a way it makes up for his bad passes in the middle of the pitch. He needs to improve in that respect in time for the Real match.
Emerson was a beast in midfield, as always, and his passing is supurb for a midfield destoyer. He might be our most important player this season.
Tacchinardi was solid in midfield today, and looked good stepping in for Blasi. I would surely choose him over Appiah anyday of the week.
Olivera was our best player in the first half, no question. His touches were supub, his passing was good, and his link up play on the left was fantastic. His goal was from a man who does not lack confidence and is ready to take a major role in our team. I say it again, Olivera has a bright future with Juventus, and he deserves a starting role with the team.
Trezeguet did not do much except for a good shot in the first half, however he did seem to be moving a lot.
Zlatan did not do much either, however he held the ball up like always. He also showed great restraint in not retaliating against the Mike Tyson wannabe Natale. Good move by Capello taking him off and giving him a well-needed rest.
Del Piero did not do much, however he scored the penality which actually was the winning goal. Even though he did not do much apart from the pk, that's good enough for me today.

Shevchenko suffers serious injury Sunday 30 January, 2005

Andriy Shevchenko has been diagnosed with a relatively serious muscular injury, confirmed the Milan website.
“Shevchenko has a large hole in the tibial muscle of his right leg,” announced chief of medical staff Dr Jean Meersseman on the site this evening.
“The ankle is not swollen, but it is very painful and we can only make a more accurate diagnosis tomorrow.”
The European Player of the Year was carried off during today’s 1-0 home defeat to Bologna after an accidental clash with opponent Alessandro Gamberini.
The defender’s studs clattered into Shevchenko’s ankle as he prepared to shoot, tearing a hole in the muscle at the top of his foot.
It is particularly bad timing for the Rossoneri, who have already been forced to do without Filippo Inzaghi for the entire season, while Hernan Crespo and Jon Dahl Tomasson have struggled for form.
It isn’t yet clear whether or not Shevchenko will recover in time for the Champions’ League clash with Manchester United on Feb 22.

Milan slipped up yet again to allow Juventus, that won at Atalanta, to open up an eight-point lead at the top of the table.
Juve travelled to Atalanta with the knowledge that Milan were just five points away and waiting for a slip up. The mistakes were not going to come from a clinical Juve. Olivera opened the scoring after just twenty-three minutes and Del Piero wrapped up the three points (78) from a penalty that was won by Camoranesi. Lillian Thuram scored an own goal in injury time but Juve prevailed by two goals to one. The win moves Juventus eight points clear of Milan.
That is thanks to Bologna who managed to cause one of the upsets of the season at the San Siro. While fans of calcio were waiting for a Juve slip-up it has been Milan who has lost two in a row. Tomas Locatelli’s first half goal was enough to take the three points back to Bologna and keep them safely away from the relegation zone, a place they looked set to struggle in for this season. Milan will need a lot of help from others if they are to catch Juve now.
In the battle for the Champions League qualification places, Roma gained an advantage over their challengers thanks to the results so far on week twenty-one. Inter play later today and Udinese lost yesterday so the victory momentarily moves Roma into the top four. Roma’s up and down seasons was emphasised in the one match as Messina took a two-goal lead going into half time. Zampagna opened the scoring (12) and Italian international Alessandro Parisi’s long rage shot (32) doubled their lead. The introduction of Mancini at half time seemed to have changed the game for Roma. Cassano (56) and Totti (60) got Roma back into the match while the stage was set for the Brazilian international. Mancini netted the Roma winner on the eighty-second minute to the joy of the Romanisti. The Giallorossi have now won two Serie A matches in a row and have only lost one of their last nine in the league.

TBH, I personaly am nowhere near happy with our performance.
Our build up play is terrible, most of the time we just send long balls from the defence and hope Zlatan gets it. We cant string 5 passes together in midfield and ve seem completely disorganized in attack. We need to be able to create a few chances against the last placed team in the league, this was pathetic if you ask me.

I agree, I also think that we slowly getting down on form again and we also bring in more solidity than before the Brescia match! But still we only played Atalanta a weak Side in Serie A, but still these are important matches and as it showed this could be big points as Milan lost!
I think that there is still work to do if we want to win something this year! Real is also getting on form and I hope we can also step up 1-2 gears! But therefor i think Capello knows how to handle the team!!
