Pogba was AM then and performed wonderfully.

Pogba never played as an AM. Always CM, just allowed to push higher forward when in possession at some times, but he has never been an actual AM and performed.

Pretty much had freedom to stay central and high up, and linked easily with the attackers. This was not a CM role in this for sure later on. Not sure why you disputing it, its distinctive enough role change for him to recall it as the anomaly of the season for him:
