In the other posts i was talking about the current level which is unappealing. Only in my last one I made a comparison with the past.
The national team argument is super flawed, first you say any team and then it turns out there are exceptions. Then you go on and compare 2022 versions to National team versions from ~1998 to ~2008, naming players that in most cases didn't even peak at the same tournament, Kaka was a fringe player when Rivaldo was balling and vice versa. Vieri's last decent tournament for Italy was 2002 while you're obviously referring to the 2006 team, etc. Of course no one is saying that all the national teams have their Golden generations right at 2022, that's foolish, all I'm saying is that football will continue to produce legends and in 15 years we'll look back at players who we thought were just great and acknowledge them as legends. Just like you're doing right now for Gattusso, Zanetti and Pires.
Imagine watching Zanetti in 2002 when he was a 28yo fullback - just started to captain a forever failing Inter team, also played for Argentina in 98 that went out in 1/4finals and the 02 team that didn't even get out of group stage. Future legend of the sport? No way you could've predicted that, you bring his name up when discussing whether the current 2002 generation is as good as the 80ties and you're a laughing stock.
Or Gattusso in 2005 when he was a 27yo midfielder - part of the most boring CL win in 2003, but overall that team was failing in Serie A, winning just the one title in 2004. Senior Italy squad just got their asses kicked in Euro2004. Future legend of the sport? The guy could barely play the sport, had about as much talent as Sturaro. Same as Zanetti, in 2005 it's not even worth it to suggest Gattusso was as good as the legends of the past, even though both were at their prime then.

In 2021 I'd say the best strikers were Haaland, Mbappe and Lewa. Then there are also Ronaldo, Messi and our very own Vlahovic, but everyone will pick a bit differently. In terms of attacking mids the undisputed king nowadays is probably de Bruyne, but plenty of good creators out there, Salah can both score and create at an elite level, I have a soft spot for T.Muller, Barella is annoyingly good for his age. Apparently Florian Wirtz from Neverkusen is the next big thing.

You're worried he's gonna bang in over 200 goals in 7 seasons and also give a buttload of assists? I wouldn't mind that, that's approximately twice as good as Dybala and half the forum is convinced he's a 10m/season player.

Modern day football is extremely unappealing and uninteresting compared to around 20 years ago.
These days the game is less competitive than ever in all major leagues, there’s more top heavy squads,less skilful players and teams all trying to play the same boring style with barely any differences to their approach.
And that’s not forgetting about the greedy, parasitic agents, fanboy fuckwits slurping certain players dicks, awful Russian gangster and disgusting Middle-Eastern petro-dollar owners using their clubs for sports washing purposes and players who don’t give a flying fuck about the clubs they play for: caring only about their bank accounts.
The only reason I still watch this poisoned and decaying sport is because I can’t ever stop watching Juventus - even though a lot of our business practices and dealings over the years leave me feeling disgusted as a fan or should I say; as a “customer”.
This sport is rotten to the core and the sooner it’s nuked and we all start over again the better.

Transfermarkt includes penalties. And even there he has 48 assists in those 7.5 seasons. To get to 52, you are going back to 13-14 which is 8.5 seasons. Either way it’s ~6 assists/season. When you realize that 17 of those assists came in a single outlier season (has never had even half that number any other season), then what could be expected in his normal season becomes 31 over 6.5 seasons. Or under 5 assists in all comps/season. Hardly a “buttload” of assists. Just like I wouldn’t consider this season, where he has 5 goals in 19 league matches, indicative of his goalscoring prowess, I’m not going to consider a single outlier season indicative of his assisting abilities.
I don’t know what you’re going for here. He’s a good goalscorer in a free scoring era. He’s still nowhere close to what Batistuta was, and hopefully what Vlahovic becomes (but yes, if Vlahovic scores at Kane level and helps lead us to titles, he will be a good transfer).

That is in all comps, yes? I’m hoping we have our 35-40 goal scorer. I hope he averages 25-30 league goals/season plus another 10 between domestic cups and CL.
If he scores at Harry Kane’s level, that’s good. It will have been a good transfer. I want it to be a great transfer, for him to become an all-time great.
Do you have an issue with me hoping Vlahovic doesn’t just become good, but instead an all-time great? Shouldn’t that be what all Juve fans hope for?

I don't care how physically fitter and tactically sounder these modern day pansies we call footbllers are, football as entertainment value has declined, sure new markets have been penetrated which gives a false sense of value, but i would say average football fans from back in the day are not nearly as interested in the new plastic product.
