Maybe, but considering the situation Inter is in, I would have expected the transfer fee being significantly lower. I think it just annoys me that Inter got 2 great seasons out of him & then managed to sell him for a substantial profit.

Not much profit when you’re in elbow deep in debt. ManU received a healthy chunk from the sale bc of the outstanding $$ owed by Inter plus $$ due to a origin sale clause. Whatever remaining proceeds Inter is left with will go to paying their debt collectors.

Sure, they won't be able to do much with the profit they make on Lukaku, because they've got debts to pay, but that doesn't mean this individual deal wasn't very profitable for them.

I agree with you about the actual sales price paid. Nearly double his perceived value IMO.

I always maintain that you can only sell a player for what the buying team is willing to pay, regardless of the circumstances. Chelsea could have played hardball but I think Inter did pretty well to get largely what was reported early on. Also, I think Lukaku is a better player now than when Inter signed him.

He is better. However, if it wasn't for Chelsea I doubt any club would chase or even be able to sign him this summer. Had it not been for Benzena I'd tip on Real since Mbappe seems hard to get considering Real's poor position.

Yeah it's a weird market, I think it affects these oil money clubs a lot less with no FFP restrictions. If we had a flop like Werner we'd have to stick with him and Abraham, Chelsea just go out and buy another player.

EPL team pays 35m for fucking Danny Ings, who is 29 and has 55 goals in 140 games in PL , so paying 115m for 28 yo Lukaku in his prime doesnt look that bad.
Its fucked up, yeah, but Inter had the best moment to montize him - he was considered Top3 CF last season and scored some goals at Euros. Chelsea imo will regret it but really there were no alternatives besides Haland.

I read this morning that Sheff Utd are holding out for £40m for keeper Aaron Ramsdale. This is a Championship club now. The English clubs have lost a lot of money also but it hasn't touched them like in other leagues, the TV money is a massive buffer.

Ligue 1 issue is quite unique. Canal+ is suing then because Amazon won the rights for more matches with substantially less money. So they don’t want to pay. If they end up winning the whole TV rights will be circa 200m!
