Carlo style is completely different to Sarri. It might not work out. Or he might actually turn them into title winners. We are also changing key players here.

Napoli is taking steps backwards. Ancelotti is not someone you build a project around. Sarri, for all his failings, had a clear style and future ahead of him for which you could invest in. You could take your money and what slight global appeal you've earned and used it to procure long-term options in the squad for Sarri.

The likes of Vidal, Di Maria and Ancelotti could flame out in months and no one would be surprised. Certainly none are long-term options. It seems like a big waste of such momentum.

If everything clicks just absolutely right, then sure, they have a bigger chance next year. But the margins are razor thin and after next year, it could drop off really quickly.
You seem to say that only cause they go to Napoli. Di Maria could do it in serie a for sure. And Vidal is 31 not 35.

Btw Matuidi and Khedira are born same year as Vidal.

I agree with Mike, it seems like ADL is looking at playing his entire hand at once. Are they really going to spend the inevitable windfall on salaries for Carletto, Vidal, Di Maria and these others? Their turnover simply isn't high to enough to otherwise pay big money to those in their twilight years. And these are twilight years for players with the styles of Vidal and Di Maria.

Vidal is 31 with two major knee surgeries. Using Jorginho money on Vidal is a step back in age and possibly even quality, depending on Vidal's recovery.

Di Maria is a better purchase. But seems like he would take a ton of their resources to sign and pay. Then if Ancelotti flops, Di Maria's place is questioned.

Monchi from Roma would buy 5 Cengiz Unders with that money. That's where I'm going with this.

With Sarri and a few players leaving, ADL gave up on scudetto and is now focusing on $ and prestige.

Not a bad idea. They won't win the league but will do better in CL and earn more. Ancelotti will also attract some interest for Napoli. Carlo may also convince one or two higher caliber players to sign for Napoli. Needing a change in mentality might/should be another reason, but ADL himself has to change first.

Vidal and Di Maria are almost impossible. I'm sure they prefer more higher profile, winning, and richer clubs. It's just the usual fantacalcio.

Maybe one odd high profile signing but that's it.

I don’t understand this move from Napoli at all. He’s not a long-term replacement , and I can’t see them providing him with the funds he needs to give him a top quality squad in Europe and Italy. Ancelotti only does well with super-teams, and even recently, he’s lost quite a bit of his shine. His style of play is also completely different from Sarri, who made worse players look better - I don’t think Ancelotti has the ability to do that. I reckon they’ll struggle to make the top 4 next season.

I think they would have been a genuine title contender (again) if they managed to keep their team together and signed Conte instead.

Irrespective of how Ancelotti does, this appt in itself generates more attn for Napoli which can only be a good thing.

And he'll surely do better in the CL.

In the league, they'll do worse, but struggling for top 4 is too much.

And by him being able to attract higher caliber players I didn't mean sheer WC players btw, just better than what they have in most positions now which is also a good thing in addition to the $ CA appt will generate.

If players really want to leave, there isn't much you can do. Esp with veterans like Hamsik who has been there for a decade.
