We need a player in this ranks that can change the game in a moment of brilliance. We have desperately needed a striker of this level for over 2 years and we have paid for it dearly IMO.
Why would you spend that much on the defense? We don't need a revolution at the back. We need one good RB and that shouldn't be expensive at all. You can't build some superstar defense and expect to win when you have IQ, Toni, AMauri, Matri, Quag, and DP for strikers...it just won't work dude. You guys can kick and scream all you want but unless we have a capable offense/midfield our defenders no matter how good they are will always be under pressure.
We need to make this team exciting again. We need a player with a talent so unreal that it draws people back to watch this miserable club. Defenders won't do that.
Well, if you build a superstar defense then another part of our team will be the Achilles heel. We won't make 3rd with the offense we have no, no way in hell will we come close. It's no coincidence that our defense and midfielders outscore most of our strikers anyways...how many times do you see them having to bail our offense out in games?

A big part of why our defense failed so miserably this year was because we couldn't keep possession and we were mentally weak...both of those put tremendous pressure on our team. It's no coincidence that weaker teams had better defensive stats than we did this year. You all have your damn scapegoats between bonucci, fullbacks, and buffon...its fucking ridiculous.
There are much more important core problems with this team than it's full backs so until you guys answer those we will always leak goals.

You can use the excuse of weak mentality and all that crap to bail out our defense, but its bullshit if you have seen them play. The number of brainfarts Bonucci and the fullbacks have had is atrocious. And because of the fullbacks our CBs were raped over and over again. Even the oft solid Chiellini looked like a school girl. We have ignored the defense every year since Calciopoli and every year it has gotten worse. If a team leaks goals, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that majority of the blame lies with the defense. Unless our strategy is to outscore the opposition every time, if we don't get 'solid' defenders we'll reach nowhere. The likes of Ziegler is not that. We might not be linked with top defenders, but thats due to us not trying hard enough.
As much as I love the novelty of having Aguero in the lineup, he will be a luxury next season. That money can be spend elsewhere. And like last time if we don't end up with him, we'll be reduced to a number of panic buys in the last minute, some striking gold and others turning out shit. Defense will yet again be ignored.

I agree with this post on the defensive part, but i think you dont rate ziegler enough
we need to improve alot of parts in our current team, so we naturally need to take good deals.
getting ziegler free is a good deal, and he is amongst the best on that position in italy, pure defencely, wich is just about what we need.
plenty of the budged should indeed go to fix our defence, but a solid DM, a good rightback, and a strong leftwinger, will do most of that.
aguero however, would bench that team up to another level, the squad would be complete

You can have a great defense but if we can't score we won't win. If we can't have a game where we control possession, we won't win and that cause breakdowns on the field. I'm not bailing out the defense at all but maintaining possession falls on all 11 players on the field, not just the back four. When you constantly lose possession, and your defenders are booting the ball up field because there is shit around them, you are going to lose possession and inevitably the ball will be force feed down their throats over and over again.
Our wingbacks sucked yes but that's because Krasic rarely tracked back and we had Pepe on the opposite side if not Marchisio playing out of position. Ziegler is a huge step up compared to Traore and Grosso and sometimes even Grygera on the left. You can not deny that.
Back to possession, when you have giant hee-haws like Amauri, IQ and Toni up front, sure they are strong but that only gets them so far, it doesn't help they have donkey touches and no ability to hold onto the ball for long...or beat their man. I am telling you, if our possession issue gets fixed that will be the levee in place to fix the flooding of counterattacks we faced this year and threads to our weak spots. The only reason why we were so fucked this year for the most part on the right side is DN's stubbornness to use Motta instead of Sorensen, but go ahead and forget to mention that. We conceded less from that side when the Dane was in...that is clear. You give Bonucci and Chiellini two intelligent full backs you will see a world of difference in the entire team. Ziegler is not "great" but he is good and the same goes for Licht...there are not many WC full backs available and that will only make their prices go higher when trying to buy.
If Conte can fix this mental problem and give the team confidence again, you will see a big difference. DN was a retard in this aspect. That's why I keeep saying Conte has a big task ahead of him. You fix these two core problems and add 2 pretty darn good full backs to the equation, a WC LM and SS then you will see a big difference. Ice, A BIG DIFFERENCE.
