Obviously Lahm and Quag.
1) lahm is unrealistic for us, bayeren will never sell
2) he isnt much better defensively
3)aguero is 3 classes better then quag and ALOT younger
4) aguero will generate massive merchandising and ticket sales
5) licht doesnt lose you games, but aguero wins you games

Ah.. it's one of those never-ending 'there's-no-such-thing-as-middle-ground'-discussions.

Nothing on Aguero, I assume?

Firstly, the acquisition of Kun for 45M will not allow us to buy any defenders good enough. Ziegler for free and Beck are upgrades but barely and that is directly due to big spending up front.

To your fourth point, that is exactly what I disagree with. Having a solid defense is 'all fine and dandy'? Its not all fine and dandy is essential to win games and that's proven in our season where we had many draws in which we scored. What do you think fullbacks just defend or something? Had there been a good right back Krasic might have been ticking all season long. But no we bought a shit one and he got double teamed with no need for the opposition defense to try and cover our right back. Two classy wing backs and a world class left back with Matri and Quag upfront would still score heavily IMO and be far more defensively sound. Those full backs and a left winger are going to be essential in a 4-2-4.

To your sixth point. What do you think makes you keep possession? A good center midfield is what's most important to keep possession. Good full backs would be holding the ball and pressing down on the opposition more than a SS would. Del Piero can hold the ball, but that isn't always his role.
Firstly, Again (and again:sergio:)...there ARE NOT ANY GOOD WC FB'S AVAILABLE!

Ahmeds point on Ranieri completely nullifies your argument about have a "great" backline. No need to discuss further on that. Smart coach makes a smarter defense.

If you read thoroughly which you obviously didn't, I mentioned to fix the midfield to help possession along with fixing the defense so long balls are no longer an option which ties right into the midfield equation. Re-read my post if necessary.

I'm not sure if you are joking or not but I hate this logic "let's skip a WC SS and sign a FB instead" and what's even more interesting fail to mention a single realistic / available name.
Lahm isn't realistic but Aguero is?

Juventus cannot get world class fullbacks. Those with great potential like Coentrão are heading to Real Madrid. Maybe our best chance of getting a fullback with such potential was two years ago when Cissokho was being sold off. They're rare.
Which is why we need to settle for Licht and Zieg as they will get the job done without the fancy shit other WC FBs offer...a smart coach that can organize the defense will only make them better.

Another question, who would you rather have Lahm and Quag or Aguero and Licht?
What about Quag, Lahm Contrao and Hazard. It would be much more possible if we didn't spend 45M one the one player. Those four bar quag all cost round 25M. You could have three of them at least with our assumed budget and players. Besides we are still building. That team would be top 3 and we could buy a world class SS and CM the next season. We would be the ultimate team. Making such a big spend this early would be harmful to that process and besides aren't 25M buys not big spends anymore? These players are still classy.

Well by that logic we can't get SS' that are world class also and feel the right to be at a top 4 club.

Dude, again. For the love of God...what makes you think we could lure both Coentrao and Lahm to juve with now CL or chance to win the league? It would be easier for us to get kun than the 3 you mentioned along with all their insane contracts.

Ahmeds point is a rhetoric. It doesn't mean anything anyway because we are dealing with a different team with different weaknesses and strengths and possibly playing a different formation where we'll need excellent attacks from our fullbacks. Whatever stat Ahmed is looking at its based on their defense, which IMO came down to good CMs at the time. You don't need to be a genius to know that Molinaro was absolutely terrible going forward. He would be the worst thing for a 4-2-4.

Quag, Lahm Contrao and Hazard would cost probably around 85mln while Aguero, Licht and Ziegler around 55mln at most. What is your point?
