Why sign a world class player when you can get a fullback instead!
Why Sign Adebayor, Rossi, Diego, Bent, Berbatov, Mario Gomez, Zarate, Jo, Keane, Amauri (all in last 3 years for about 25M or more)

when I can sign Coentrao or Cissokho?

but you're kinda right on the market inefficiency part. supply/demand doesn't really apply here.
Of COURSE supply and demand matters here. Everyone wants to sign the best players in the game, and those are usually strikers and midfielders. The DEMAND for a world class fullback is LESS than a world class attacking player. It's freakin' simple, kindergarten econ.

Who is a match-winning 25M forward? FFS, Andy Carroll got like 40M. And better players don't go for higher prices. Is Rossi 5M better than Coentrao? Is he even better at all? No.
You're not making any sense at all. Yes, the market prices are inflated because there's more money in football than ever before, but that doesn't mean supply and demand doesn't matter, or it's inefficient.

Coentrao has to be one of the most overrated players this forum has ever seen, and I can GUARANTEE you that maybe two people have seen him enough to make such statements like that.

My point is not to avoid guys like Aguero. They are great players. That's why they are worth 40M.

My point is to avoid 25M forwards who are clearly not as good and THESE PLAYERS are the ones dependent on the team. Where as a 25M fullback will be LESS dependent on the team and will IMO make a great impract.

But we are talking about Aguero and not for Adebayor and the likes.
But if you give me 25M, I will spend it on Coentrao/Cissokho before I spend it on all those guys I listed because these 2 are better than those forwards. And that is the whole point. The forwards are overvalued and ultimately if the player isn't so great that he can win games on his own (like Aguero) then he is dependent on the team. So I will build a great team before I buy that player.

Who would you rather have Maicon and Quag or Lichtsteiner and Aguero?
maicon before he tanked and quag before injury or as they are right now? if not, then i'd go for Lichtsteiner and Kun. but let's say i'd have to choose between Lahm and Rossi or Lichtsteiner and Aguero it would be tough one.

who says who are the best and the match-winning players? if you go with transfer fees you're right of course. but its not out of question that soccer execs are not economic masterminds. if one's team's defenders are better than the other team's attackers shouldn't they be worth more? i tend to say yes.

25M on Coentrao? And prices for fullbacks aren't inflated as well?

How many times have you even seen Coentrao play?
He's very good. I've seen plenty. So much that I'd say I'd rather have him than those guys I listed. Crazy, I know.

Players who change games at the whim of a hat, like Tevez and Aguero.

If you think the Javier Zanetti of last year should be worth more than Messi because he and his mates shut him down, go right ahead and believe that. Doesn't work that way in the real world.

Why fullbacks are not match winning? Obviously, in attack they can't do shit without the the others. Its either a perfect pass for a fullback running from a deep or a team play to stretch the defense and allow the fullback alone on his flank. In most cases the are not difference makers in defense as well as there is always a CB to cover.

you have to account for his age and his ability to play multiple positions on the left flank (probably rb as well).
i saw coentrao most matches of last world cup and a handful of europa league games this year and i think he's a real good fullback. unlike other fullbacks who are either one or the other he's pretty strong offensively as well as defensively.

This list?

I would do the same without thinking twice, but what about Aguero or Tevez?

I would choose Aguero or Tevez of course. They are not necessarily dependent on the team, which is my whole point. I pay 40M for Tevez because he can take a ball and put it in the net himself.

But when you get down to the 25M range which is what we were talking about with 25M for Coentrao, those forwards aren't the ones that can take games by themselves. They are overvalued greatly. I could build up a sick team and stick fucking Marco Di Vaio or fucking Hernan Crespo/Trezeguet up front for 10M and he'll do the same as Bent, Gomez, Jo, Keane, etc.
