I don't know, to be honest. I would have liked, for once, for him to be selfish and ask for something bigger.
You heard what he said, though. "I don't want to make the same mistake I did a few years ago".
He is afraid that if he takes on a bigger club then the same thing will happen. He has a sour taste in his mouth and know he will be in his prime in the next 2 years, so why would he want to take the chance of being on the bench again fighting endlessly for something that won't come?
I don't think he has a provincial mentality for a smaller club like Parma but more an affection for a club (not taking size into account) that gave him what he couldn't get at Juve. The club gave him guarantees and stuck to their word...and in return was their best player. I don't blame him. No one should, and no one should doubt or criticize his mentality for wanting to stay at Parma.
Perhaps he just wants one more year under his belt until a big club seriously makes a big bid for him? Something he can't say no to and something that shows a 2 way commitment...when he was at Juve he didn't have that...it was a one way street.
