Giovinco’s injury frustration Sunday 3 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Muscular problems have ruled Empoli starlet Sebastian Giovinco out of this afternoon’s game against Inter and the Azzurrini squad to play Holland.

The Juve-owned talent limped off in the latter stages of the Tuscan derby against Fiorentina last weekend, but had hoped to return to fitness for a big week.

However, Giovinco’s recovery has been slower than expected and he will now have to sit out Empoli’s trip to San Siro and Tuesday’s Under-21 friendly against Holland.

The untimely injury will be a frustrating blow to Giovinco, who is desperate to state his case for a return to Turin in the summer.

Replacing the pint-sized 21-year-old in Pierluigi Casiraghi’s squad is his Empoli teammate Ignazio Abate.

The Milan youth product has just one Azzurrini cap, as a late substitute against Luxembourg at the end of 2006.

The squad will meet this evening after their Serie A engagements and the onus is on the players to impress Casiraghi ahead of the Olympics in Beijing.

Why we didn't recall Gio during our winter break is amazing, I guess we didn't have a recall clause...

we really need midfield spark and we signed nobody...great..

we really need his brilliance
Anybody creative would have been gud...I just don't understand why we didn't bring any body in despite the obvious lack of midfield spark.

The worst thing is that Secco seems like he's saving the money for summer, honestly I would pay an extra 2-4mil for somebody with creativity to be brought in January.

I would never co-own my good players. If they're good there will always be a team that will take him on loan.

De Ceglie, Giovinco and Marchisio MUST come back next season. The thing is that we'll need to dish out some $$$ for De Ceglie and Giovinco. +-10m €?
I thought Giovinco was on a straight out loan??

Giovinco is a simple loan. Never heard a mention of anything else. Verify why the heck a loan would cost us anything.

Co-owns are stupid and counterproductive, not for De Ceglie but in general, and only Italy uses it.

Sebastian Giovinco, con la formula del prestito con diritto di riscatto. (empolifc.com)

loan with right to buy.

buy what? half? whole contract?

I think it's right to buy the whole player with Juve having the rights to counter it by paying a pre-established amount for one half and negotiate with Empoli for the other.

BOH!
Whats the agreed price to his rights?

Besides, I don't think Gio would want to stay in Empoli. He'll definitely be back in June, but its not guaranteed he'd be a Juventus player till September with this management.
