Giovinco: «I am happy that we won»

The Atmoic Ant was called by Claudio Ranieri to replace Pavel Nedved and the young talent did not disappoint, even scoring the second of the three goals.

«I am happy with the preformance and obviously with the goal. I am happy we won and that we managed to continue in our streak of victories».

Asked how he felt playing in the position usually occupied by Pavel Nedved Giovinco said: «I didn’t expect it but I felt well and it is always importnat to learn and gain experience. I always try to give my maximum. Perhaps sometimes I get more tired. This role is more diffiuclt because you spend much more energy».

The goal celebration saw the apprentice run and hug his master Alex Del Piero: «I celebrated with Alex as I had always dreamt of doing sibce I was a boy. We missed alot of chances and we wanted to end the match as soon as possible but we even risked since we missed quite a few goal opportunities».

Seba creates chances. Ranieri should play him more often and shouldn't be afraid to replace DP or Neddy. That fear could cost us big in the end.

As well as Ranieri has done this season, I still don't trust his judgement when it comes to gambling during games, and I am more conservative than most in this regard.

Ranieri is too hesitant in playing Giovinco. If he is in another team he will definitely be a starter already. Ranieri's insistence on playing Nedved is something I can't really comprehend. Come on Nedved is already 36, and his lack of speed can be seen from the Siena game. Of course Nedved will help with this experience, but then Juventus should really invest on Giovinco after the Catania game

Ranieri happy with Giovinco
Thursday 15 January, 2009
Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri looks set to give Sebastian Giovinco more playing time after the 21-year-old inspired the Bianconeri to victory in the Coppa Italia last night.

Giovinco scored Juventus’ second goal in their 3-0 win over Catania to book the club’s place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

“I should give him more continuity,” admitted Ranieri who has handed Giovinco just three starts in Serie A so far this season.

“He played a good game, but, then again, the team is doing well. The solution whereby Giovinco is Pavel Nedved’s deputy would be comfortable, but it’s not his normal position.”

Ranieri then explained why he chose not to rest his first choice strike partnership of Amauri and Alessandro Del Piero ahead of this weekend’s match away to Lazio.

“I wanted the pair to play because they needed concentration,” said Ranieri. “The Christmas break has been long and my fear was that the lads would be a little lost.”

Amauri and Del Piero played the full 90 minutes while goalkeeper Gigi Buffon made his competitive return after a long stint on the sidelines with back and thigh trouble.

Juventus are currently Italy’s form team. The Bianconeri are second in Serie A just four points behind Inter and have won their last six games.
