damned shame, what a story that would have been!

in other news the worst kept secret in scotland-Hearts approach McGhee.
there has been talk of this down tynecastle way for months,am very surprised it has taken so long to get out. i think it is probably a formality and talk is that porter, hughes and another player will follow.

as for you lot andy, apparently you have earned more from this season than at any time since ferguson was manager, do you think they will loosen the purse-strings a little for tango man?

Is there any indication that McGhee wants to join Hearts? I don't think it is a good move for him.

Enough money will be made available to sign players who can improve the squad. Whether that money will be spent wisely is another matter.

he is very, very keen on teh hearts job, obviously as a don you will not acknowledge the fact but hearts are seen as a large club with prestige within scottish football. he knows it will be a massive step-up in terms of wages, signing clout and chance of truly challenging at the top. he has probably taken motherwell as far as he can and they face teh possibility of losing several of their top players so he is looking to move on while his stock is still held in high regard

I've never denied that Hearts are seen as a major club within Scotland.

He still doesn't want to join you though. :p

You would think Romanov might have come to Scotland to speak to McGhee. Hardly sent out the right message.

I find it strange that McGhee turned Hearts down, as you said i don't think he can take Motherwell any further and with Hearts he will have the funding (with the help of some debt :D) and could present a realistic challenge the old firm if he was allowed to stabalise and take full control over the team.

I guess the instability and the fact that he is in the UEFA cup next season have gone against Hearts.

mcghee was at teh airport, ready to board a flight and has "a sudden change of heart" while boye the chairman says "we had a lengthy discussion and he agreed to change"

makes you wonder what was said eh? i think something along the lines of...."i have heard wee strach is planning on quiting celtic"

    Maybe.

I think McGhee made the right choice. He can sit tight for a wee while and a more attractive job will come up.

Early in his career as a manager he moved as soon as a bigger club wanted him, whether it was a good career move or not.

The Hearts top is smart, but it doesn't look like a Hearts kit.

The only problem with the new Aberdeen kit is the collar. If it had the white collar like last seasons kit, it would look much better.

And the away kit should have black shorts.

well we have had black and blue strips in the past but is a nice change from the white/maroon away fare. i suppose the main problem with the aberdeen kit is getting a ginge to model it, you are hardly gonna look at a pasty white guy with ginger hair and think "hmmm i wonder if i can look that good"

    celtic sign patrick mccourt

    David Friel
CELTIC Football Club have tonight completed the signing of highly-rated Derry City winger Patrick McCourt.

The 24-year-old Northern Ireland internationalist agreed a three-year deal with the SPL champions after finalising his transfer on Thursday. He will join up with Gordon Strachan’s squad for the start of pre-season training next month.

Speaking exclusively to www.celticfc.net, McCourt admitted he was overwhelmed to be given the chance to play for the club he has always supported.

“I’m thrilled and it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet to be honest,” he smiled, just seconds after signing on the dotted line for his beloved Hoops. “This is a dream come true for me.

“There was interest from a few clubs but as soon as I found out that Celtic were in for me, my mind was made up. I have always been a Celtic supporter and there was only one choice to make. It's an honour to join one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours, but I’m just delighted to get everything sorted out. To sign for this club is a dream and when I get back home tonight, it might all finally sink in. It’s just been an incredible day.”

McCourt, who began his career in England with Rochdale as a teenager, also had a spell with Shamrock Rovers before moving to hometown club Derry City in 2005. He has been capped by Northern Ireland at under-21 and senior level.

Comfortable on the right and left flanks, McCourt is a former FAI Young Player of the Year and earned rave reviews for his performances last season. Celtic beat off strong interest from a host of top clubs to land his signature.

McCourt said: “I’m joining one of the biggest clubs in the world. Celtic have won the SPL title three times in a row and compete in the Champions League every season. What more could you ask for?

“My first target is to get a good pre-season under my belt and then take it from there. The quality in the Celtic squad is unbelievable but I’ll be trying to push my way into the manager’s plans as soon as possible. I can’t wait to get started."
