Can't afford Sanchez's wages, instead sign four players who won't equal his skill, equal more than his transfer fee and more than his wages.

I would think the equation is more along the lines of would you rather have a Sanchez type purchase (as in, established 1st team star, young, instant marketability, serves a direct need, 40M, around 4m net per year), or Morata (20M, 2M), Pereyra (13-15, 1.5M?), and Sturaro (5.5M+ bonuses, Genoa paying salary). Obviously the way the payments are structured is very important in Beppe's process, but just using the full committed figures for fun (I consider Pereyra an obligation, because with Udinese it always is -- although we did renegotiate for Isla's second half).

Anyway, what Beppe is doing is generally not my favourite mercato strategy, but I haven't seen enough of Marota or Pereyra, and I've seen none of Sturaro in-game (or Coman), so I'm not getting too judgmental yet.

What you say is true but notice all those players are young. It's obvious we're looking to replace our aging squad with these players or at least use them to rotate with starters. I think many people underestimate the fact our starting 11 is very old. In 2-3 years time we'll have to replace 2/3 of it. It can't be done in one summer even with huge budget like MU has (which we don't and won't have anytime soon).

Sanchez would be dope I fapped to him hard but I knew we stood no chance. This way I wasn't disappointed when we missed out on him :p

This guy kept asking my wife out before we were together. She had no idea who he was until her brother pointed out he played football. Could've been married to a millionaire and missed her call!

I don't understand this model of either buying young players or going for cheap players far past their peak. Can't see it working to be honest, looks more like a tactic of a team from a small league with a bit of cash to spend. Unfortunately it sums up the direction not only juve but serie a is heading towards.
What :/ ?

I'm not too fond of this guy I think we should have brought back Gabbiadini. The cost would be about the same but there's always an option he can do well. Etoo once was a fantastic player but he's way past it. I don't get it why we have to make these type of signings every summer :sergio:

Yeah, for sure, this strategy is obviously about finances and the youth movement; our board is worried about ending up like Milan :p

I think our average age is like 28 and change? It's up there, but obviously inflated by guys like Pirlo, Buffon, and Storari. It's important to keep an eye towards youth, no doubt. Still, I thought we were going to push a little harder this season for established players, given that:

A: Conte was ambitious, and you could always tell from his comments that he was looking for a little more on the market. Plenty of little passive aggressive hints in interviews, wanting more quality, feeling Juve didn't have enough.

B: Many of our players are, as you say, older -- or are in demand, and have contracts that will be expiring in a couple years. I figured we might push a little harder for European honours, see how far we could push our historic domestic run, considering our club is (IMO) much better than it showed in Europe, and is in something of a championship window.

Bringing in a star 25 y/o, and a guy like Coman would be good moves for the future, regardless of which way the mercato strategy went.

One thing about the current decisions that I do like, is that we still haven't shown our hand on possibly selling Vidal or Pogba. Which means that our management is probably serious about trying to keep them here for awhile (certainly Vidal long term, but maybe even Paul; Pogba could play another 3-4 years here, win a ton for a prestigious club, and only be 24-25). So it tends to indicate to me that management is quite serious about keeping those guys.

I would say that given the increase in the kit sponsorship, the new TV deal, the likelihood of an improvement in CL, and a potential sale of one of our big stars, we could make some pretty massive moves on the market in a relatively short time (1-2 years). Especially when you consider a guy like Berardi who is young and waiting in the wings.

Anyway, I just posted that off topic blurb above, because I'm a bit tired of hearing that the current way we're moving on the market is the 'only' option available to us, given our 'poverty'. Because while this strategy may turn out to be the best, it's FAR from a given that it is the best, and there are certainly lots of ways to spend the type of money that we're spending.

Ultimately, we do need to get younger, but right now it seems like we're either buying babies, or pensioners. Anyway, I'm excited all the same, can't wait to kick-off the season :D

Likes the Juve option. Definite decision next week. QPR also interested. Not a question about cash. - GDM
