Come on. You're smarter than this. Of course he has a role. Some players are more tactical or motivational, and coaches always have favorites. There's no doubting he has quality, but we need better going forward.
:agree:

I like Sami. He's a solid, dependable player. He's also very intelligent on the pitch. He was an important part of our near treble last season, and played quite well in the 2 man mid right up to the CL final.

That being said, he just doesn't have that top quality as a B2B to be a starter for us in a 3 man mid going forward. We need better for a starter. I'd love to have him here as a rotation option. As a 4th or 5th CM he'd be great.

Unfortunately, Khedira is the least of our worries with the season Higuain is having :(

If Mandzukic was not running his balls of the entire 2nd half of the season, that midfield and especially Sami would have been ran over far before the Madrid game........

Of course Mario helped heaps. So did the athleticism on either flank with Alves and Sandro. But Pjanic especially turned in some monster defensive performances. There were matches where he had like 8 tackles and 5 interceptions. Khedira also played very well in regards to positioning and breaking up play through the middle.

The point was that Khedira played well in a system that suited him. However, we ran Mario and Cuadrado into the ground last year, as we had no rotation options, and the formation no longer works with Alves gone, Sandro in terrible form, and Higuain an incompetent ghost. Sami just doesn't cut it as a starting B2B in a 3-man mid anymore.

What did the rest of the team do today and why aren't you complaining in their threads as well?
I do when I see it just Sami is more consistent in his play. You know maybe Max with offensive weapons on hand is just going back to old style and score first and not take chances with Sami in there. Solid question with a question answer there.

Khedira is more frustrating than others, because the likes of Sandro, Pjanič and Higgy have high ceilings, you know that we'll play them until they hopefully regain form and win matches for us again, while with Khedira you know that we'll play him and not much will improve, he'll still be among the worst players starting for us because that is his level nowadays.

And that just sucks, imagine if you disliked your work, found out that you'll have to work longer shifts, there are no weekends and you'll not be able to take vacation until summer. And you cannot resign. That's what Khedira feels like this season.

Was a valid question you didn't answer properly, but who cares.

I'm talking about how watching Khedira start for my team feels for me :p I know he's currently without question the 3rd best CM we have and nothing will change at least until the summer. We'll go with our 3 man midfield which probably is our best option for defensive solidity, we'll play Khedira there because he is our best option for RCM and he's just not good enough and we'll have to witness it in every major game until summer, we can't escape it.

That's my point. Now save up the complaining til summer cause Nothing is gonna change til then.

Maybe a month of Sturaro as RCM would make you appreciate Sami a little more.

People should be more worried about the performance level of Higuain and Sandro than Sami.

Those two are train wrecks at the moment.

Sami is more than good enough as a sub. In fact he amd marchisio both cpuld play this role well and it would get the best out of them.

In a 3 man midfield matuidi and pjanic are givens..but would allegri play someone like bentancur?
