:agree:
Let me quote myself quick :p
Play him as holding mid in a 4231, with Cuadrado and Pjanic next to him, Dybala in front of him, and he can keep it simple. Quick short passes, running into channels and supporting the attack every now and then, similar to his role in the german NT (and back then at Real Madrid) with Kroos next to him.

Play him RCM in a 4312, and he has to boss the entire right pretty much on his own, even worse with alves injured.

I'd say let's stick to the oldschool 1 creative 1 holding mid system, at least until we sign a player like Tolisso.

We've been saying Khedira is a holding mid and shouldn't be B2B since at least November.

This is his ideal position but still I thought he was poor today. Outplayed by Pjanic in every way and Pjanic is supposed to be a fairy. He had a few giveaways in bad positions and didn't win nearly as many balls as Pjanic.

Fairly good game from him. Considering how $hit he has been lately.

But still: From all the players involved in the midfield, he was still the "invisible man", especially now that Pjanic stepped up and had such a great game.

What i also have started seeing from him recently, is that he has big problems in tight spaces, and often clears the ball a bit panicking instead of staying composed. He gave the ball away several times to Lazio this way, and had we played a more effective side we surely would have been punished.

Not impressed.

I don't understand how Pjanic having a great game can negatively affect how we rate Khedira's performance.

90% pass success (52/58 completed), 2 tackles and 2 interceptions is quite a good performance. He can do better but even this level of performance is higher than most midfielders are capable of.

I understand your point and I agree, they should not be mixed.

However, he is not taking enough responsibility on the pitch and lacks presence.
That is worrying and simply not good enough.

If you add the fact that he is far from great in possession and does only what is expected from him, absolutely nothing more, one starts to think.

What is the argument for keeping him as a starter? im interested to hear this.

I just added his statistics from the game. He was very good in possession with only 6 passes not finding a teammate and I thought he showed plenty of presence yesterday, pressuring people and making it hard for Lazio to break us down. I've been through this debate many times and I still don't understand why people think everyone on the field should be able to create something special on their own.

Sami is a complete midfielders who's positioning and movement defensively are always good. When have you seen a goal scored by the opponent where you think Sami should have done better? To add to that he is more than capable in possession and a threat going forward again thanks to his smart movement and well timed forward runs. People keep asking about Sami's strengths and I think the best answer is that he doesn't really have any weaknesses. He is a great midfielder who does everything well without much of a hassle. I for one when I still played football would have loved to played alongside a guy like Khedira and I'm sure he is always highly appreciated among his teammates.

He was good yesterday, like the rest of the team. He had worse second half, probably due to the injured head, but other than that I liked his perfomance..

I think the expectation here is for sami to be more physical which i dont think his ever been and its unfair to judge him based on that. The other is for him to make smart runs, which he was doing ever so well at the start of the season but whether its formation, fitness or just plain lazy i dont know. However that said i still like sami and im confident we will see the best of him in the coming months.
