True, unfortunately sami is another player suffering from the deficiency 'of physical midfield steel'. Clearly his done well in his career when he had a destroyer next to him or the likes.

He was blessed during his time at Real and Germany with players of physical presence such as Xabi Alonso and Bastian Schweinster respectively. Last season he missed quite a bit of the season but again was blessed with Pogba. This season his blessed with sturaro. So as you can see theres no excuses here, his shit and we should sell him.

Hopefully Rincon is that wild card that will release sami back to what he was once capable of.
I'm not sure he necessarily needs physical strength next to him. He has played with Kroos in the NT for the last year or so and they have looked solid enough. It's just that when the pace of the game is frantic he gets a bit lost. We need to control the games better and be the ones that determine the pace of the game. We lose control too easily at the moment.

Thats a good point but then with such good passers like kroos and the possession they love to have I guess there was no need.

At some point it looks like we will be going back to a 4 man mid so there will be room for both if we can get a strong B2B mid like vidal or Pogs
We might as well beas headed in the Christmas tree direction, considering Pjaca, Dybala and Cuadrado can play the SS position and we are supposedly looking at attacking wingers and then theres Berardi

Yup, we need 2 strong box to box if we will be seriously thinking to maintain a line of 3.

The sooner we bench sturaro and khedira, the better. Rincon seems to be a good start but we need to see much more form him to judge.

One player probably won't change the whole team, we need two.
I disagree. With a really stronf box to box we could run Pjanic in the 3 man midfield when right now he is to big of a liability in an already weak mid. Also I think our midfield was good last year. We competed and I would even say were better than Bayern in those two legs. Also it doesnt help that our defense has had no continuity all year. We need those guys helthy. In most years we would have won the game 1-0 because our defense but we had 3 guys that have played very little together in months and that takes its toll on everyone

How can we move on when our midfield is crap?.

Moving on means buying a quality replacement in the summer. Period.

Theres a reason why we cant forget vidal and pogba, and is because we get reminded every weekend.

Chiellini is a club legend and deserves more respect than that. How long has Sami been with us thus far? Barely two seasons, and he's been irrelevant almost 60% of the time, with either injuries or shitty performances. Granted, he has had some very good games, but this season he has been terrible.

I'm surprised he did so well as a holding mid. Him and Pjanic made a few too many mistakes but managed to keep it together

Good to see him doing well in an new environment.

It's pretty funny. Khedira's thread doesn't have a single comment in it about how he played a good match. But if he played a poor one, there would be 3 pages of posts saying he's washed up and we should sell him. :D
moved to Sami thread :touched:

Absolutely solid.

Play him as holding mid in a 4231, with Cuadrado and Pjanic next to him, Dybala in front of him, and he can keep it simple. Quick short passes, running into channels and supporting the attack every now and then, similar to his role in the german NT (and back then at Real Madrid) with Kroos next to him.

Play him RCM in a 4312, and he has to boss the entire right pretty much on his own, even worse with alves injured.

I'd say let's stick to the oldschool 1 creative 1 holding mid system, at least until we sign a player like Tolisso. @Mark :green:
