By acting togheter as one the EU and American through its sanctions and their way of helping Ukraine, indirectly shows China what will happen if they dare to invade Taiwan.
Even Turkey and Kazakhstan abandoned their support for putin.
China isn't to happy also since they recognized the donbas and luhansk territory since it makes of a fool of China's claim to Taiwan.

But it can't be a coincidence, I seen this conflict discussed in 3 forums, and in all 3 of them , Serbs are indirectly pro Russia or blinded by their past with Nato to acknowledge the brazen nature of this action. All arguing with other balkan peeps (Bosnians, Croatians and in some occasiobal albanian) or in general speaking against anyone critiquing the Russian motives with various forms of deflecting whataboutism.



This thread is the most civil and calm version of the same topic, but its undeniable that the pattern of it being specifically Serb posters who are saying this in most of these instances in 3 different forums, cant simply be a coincidence. Not a crime, we are all shaped by our past, but hardly a coincidence.

I got sucked into all of this because of a comment saying third reich = ussr. Issue with this thread is that its so hardline pro ukranian that all nuance is sucked out of the conflict. People go so far as to claim, that NATO poses no threat to Russia. Claiming the opposite suddenly makes you pro-Putin. Its amazing.

Free thinker is used as a derogatory term for anyone who steps out of the doctrine, too. Im not interested in arguing feelings, Im very much interested in trying to figure out how this is going to end, why and how to stop it from happening again.

My Bet is its going to end with peace talks and concessions to Russia. Probably the same concessions that wouldve prevented thousands of civilian casualties.

If you still think Putin will somehow emerge victorious from all this you are in for an awakening my friend. It's all over for him. Doesn't matter what happens to/in Ukraine now, Putin is done, the countdown has begun.

Is this a comparable situation? I would think it will be much more challenging to hide/ control the narrative here

I'm assuming much of Russia and Ukraine have access to the internet now and therefore a wealth of different sources.

During the Chechen war they kept journalists out but now anyone with a smartphone can capture footage and upload it to the internet.

This is nothing new though, the hunt for boosting domestic approval ratings by showing force. And alot of that thread has too much oversimplication and generalisations.


But the core premise itself is not new. Putin if nothing is a traditionalist tyrant. He is stuck on what worked in the past.


But that may be his undoing, because its 22 years later and the false flags and the propaganda doesn't slide at all in this way more interconnected information age. And big modern force like Ukraine ain't small time regional Chechnya.

Also the biggest difference is that Ukraine is a sovereign nation, unlike Chechnya, although called a ‘constituent republic’ is a part of Russia. It’s easier to sweep things under the rug if it’s in your own country.

Yeah a lot of information is flying around, but you can't differentiate between truth and propaganda until you have some kind of video evidence.

You are right, but the more perspectives you hear the better you develop your own understanding of what's going, all of us work with very limited knowledge, the more pieces at your disposal the clearer the puzzle, but even to the best of us puzzle is not clear. What's really clear though is there are people directly affected by this who rather hear at least words of encouragement and prayers their way, as opposed to some 5000 miles away 2 bit callous takes.

It’s a shared Slavic ethnolinguistic group with close cultural ties. Beyond that, not coming from a region with widespread anti-western sentiment and hotbed breeding ground for terrorist groups. Of course governments are going to be more concerned about unknown refugees arriving from the Middle East/North Africa as opposed to from Ukraine. People just want to be outraged about everything they think they can link to racism/bigotry/white privilege.
