Better to not take the call then burst in uncontrollable laughter when he asks them to sanction russia
Pretty sure the request wasn’t to sanction Russia but rather increase the oil production.
But why do you feel they shunned US? Is that related to JCOPA revival or there’s anything else?

Maybe yeah, that's a fair assumption. The thing is the US isn't very dependent on Russian oil, still maybe it's on behalf of the Europeans.
And JCOPA is a big part of that for sure but they are also both very heavily invested in Russia. And let's be honest, they really wouldn't care much about Ukraine.

It’s not about Ukraine. It’s about going with the US and her allies.
US may not depend on Russian oil but price increase is extremely damaging politically.

The world is full of oil, there is no shortage of gasoline, the price for oil is fucking absurd, fucking OPEC bastards are doing what they want
OPEC’s sole reason for existing is to control the market through production limits. Can they bend a little? Of course. So far they have resisted doing so, and I’m not sure why.

ok, but how politically damaging would it be if Putler gets away with the shit he is doing.

I get that but they are not ideological allies, they are common interest allies. And they have a lot of common interests with Russia or of staying on good terms at least. Also oil price going up serves them as well without them doing it directly, the americans have no leverage here and they are under no public pressure to take a stand.
I just don't see any reason to do so from their point of view. There are no friend in politics, I know you know.

To who? Biden?

The US is so polarized that there are almost no political costs to pay anymore outside the party, swinging votes are almost insignificant nowadays.. He isn't running for a second term anyway

Are you saying US has less leverage than Russia in dealing with Gulf countries? That’s new to me, though I’d be glad to see the reasoning. US has numerous economic ties with said countries.

Meh. We don't depend on much of any Russian oil. Mostly Angola, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia.

Hate to bring this up again but...

The weird part is if this contaminates everything in a wide radius, it's Russians who are probably going to suffer the most.

The US right now reminds me of the battles between Portistas and Benfiquistas over Portuguese NT player selection before a World Cup. Except for the US it already is the world cup and they're still going at it.

Biden is weak and nobody even wants to talk to him because it's like trying to talk to your 90 year old grandpa at the nursing home. Just a waste of time and he'll ask you the same questions 24 hours later. Kamala would just read a script and tell Saudis their oil needs to be cheap so kids can ride busses.

independent voters are a big chunk of the electorate. People who voted for Biden because he isn’t Trump may not have the same incentive if Trump is not on the ballot.
