Please, please please don't tell me some people think that Mandragora is better than this kid. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but come on.

mandragora scored two beauties, while bentancur had some poor games recently, and you're only as good as your last game, so...

the key to yesterday's performance was 1. pjanic getting bullied by 2-3 ajax players constantly, so bentancur could move relatively freely between the two defensive lines 2. perfect tactical and mental preparation. he kept it simple, just like emre can did for his highlight game against atletico. bentancur is still surprisingly calm on the ball, that's probably his best asset, while he had 7 tackles, which is probably a record for any juve player this season. only de jong played on a similar level yesterday, and he's a 60m, hyped talent, deserving all attention.

One of the best games i have seen from him. Maybe the best. He reminded me prime marchisio as regista.
Simple but composed.

Mandragora is at least level below Rodrigo in pure ability. Benta is underrated here, put him in Ajax and he is going to be a fapboy in Mercato thread.
I dont think he is underrated here. We have seen how good or how wonky he can be. Yesterday he showed great composure tho. We need more of those displays

The overreaction here. Bentancur was great in Ammsterdam, he was also terrible for months. One game doesn't define a season against all other matches. If he can play most games like he did on Wednesday then obviously he is great, but that has not been the case. So many matches this season he does absolutely nothing except being a yellow card risk on every other tackle.

Let him build consistent performances before laughing at posters that are rightly unimpressed with his season.

Its not his fault he didnt have a great season. He's a DM who was played out of position as b2b CM to accommodate Allegri's wet dream of Pjanic becoming a world class regista (never happened).

He has all the tools to make a great DM; good passing range, very strong defensively, and does a great job breaking from deep. There's just a few facets of the game which are critical at regista which he needs to work on. These include breaking free from immense pressure, making himself available as an outlet for teammates under pressure, controlling the flow of the game and defensive positioning. Pirlo, Xavi, Marchisio etc absolutely excelled at these traits which is what made them absolutely world class registas (in the case of Pirlo/Xavi all time greats); however, Pjanic struggles with these facets of the game which is why he was never really up to par as a regista.

With that said there is still allot of time for Bentancur to grow and hone these skills. Marchisio did not posses these facets at a younger age; however, with more experience and playing along with Pirlo you could clearly see these skills improve which is what lead to him being such a fantastic regista. Had we not sold Marchisio he could of definitely played that role for Bentancur and aided his development quite a bit IMO.

Great video, skip to 4:25 if you want to see Bentancury exhibit the time of long range vertical passing we've been missing with Pjanic at Regista....

Great post. Totally agree with you, altough he's more a Busquets than a Pirlo/Xavi.

Being misused as a box to box midfielder, and plays more comfortably in front of the defence.

If im not mistaken he played as a DM at Uruguay aswell. But its very clear that managers see something in him. It took me quit some time to understand what kind of player he is. Had a strong run this season, last months his performances declined.
