Soz guys, but why would we want pires?
Not only is he 32 and will only be able to play 3 more years max, he has lost all his pace and been quite poor this year.
Plus, he wouldn't want to be a sub player, and his wages would probably be too much for him to sit on bench

No pires please. we need to look for a long term solution. pires would be short term. Invest in young talent and live up to our name Juventus. Youngsters.

IMO he would be a good signing specially as a free.
yeah i agree with you . but we can sing lot of players like him free but without any benefit to the team.

He can join us but on the same time we won't find a position as long as we deeply prefer Nedved & Camo over him !

He's only got one good season on him to be honest. And given how injury prone he is, i dont see him cutting it in the Serie A.

JUVE SOLE BIDDERS FOR PIRES
by Mark Buckingham - Wednesday 13.07.2005.

Robert Pires' agent has scotched talk of an offer from Galatasaray but confirmed Juventus are keen on the Arsenal midfielder.

Turkish giants Galatasaray had claimed that they are close to landing the Frenchman after Pires lowered his demands.

Pires could leave Highbury over the summer as he has only been offered a 12-month contract extension after asking for a two-year deal.

Gala are keen to sign the 32-year-old but neither Pires nor Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger are aware of the club's offer.

But Pires' representative Stephane Courbis has revealed Italian champions Juventus are the sole club to make contact after outlining how much the player wants to quit North London.

"Galatasaray? We haven't got an offer from that club," Courbis told Turkish newspaper Vatan.

"Right now Juventus is the only interested party.

"The price of our player is £2.75 million a year. Lowering the price is not an issue you can discuss.

"It is not possible that Pires can go to any club in Turkey."

Gala remain insistent they are in talks with Pires but Gunners chief Wenger denied fielding an offer from the Turkish side.

Wenger said: "We haven't got an offer from their manager nor anybody else. I am hearing for the first time that Galatasaray are interested."

IMO Pires would be a useful addition. If he does come it won't be for more than 5m and he's good enough to keep Camoranesi and Nedved on their toes. With Kapo back in France we could use another wide player as Olivera isn't good enough for Juve (IMHO anyways).

GALA CLOSE TO PIRES DEAL

Galatasaray revealed on Wednesday they are close to completing a surprise swoop for Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires.

The France midfielder is reportedly unhappy the Gunners have offered him only a one-year extension to his current deal which expires in 2006.

And now the Istanbul club are hoping to take advantage of the situation, hoping the Premiership side decide to sell Pires rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

"An agreement has not been reached yet, but we can say that we are making progress towards finalising it," said Galatasaray president Ozhan Canaydyn.

Pires - whose 14 Premiership goals last season made him the league's third top scorer - is also reportedly a target for Juventus, Valencia and Lyon.

If he doesnt agree an extension with Arsenal, wasnt he going to ask to rescind his contract with em? They might just, since they wont be getting nothing for him when he's 33. I still think Figo's a better option.

Pires favours Juve, reveals agent

Arsenal winger Robert Pires is interesting Italian side Juventus but will not move to Galatasaray, according to his agent.
Turkish club Galatasaray claimed they were close to signing the 31-year-old French international.

But Stephane Courbis told Turkish newspaper Vatan: "Galatasaray? We haven't got an offer from that club.

"Right now Juventus is the only interested party. It is not possible Pires can go to any club in Turkey."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was equally unaware of Galatasaray's interest.

He said: "We haven't got an offer from their manager nor anybody else. I am hearing for the first time that Galatasaray are interested."

The chance of a deal going through is getting higher
Galatasaray vice-president Turgay Kiran

Galatasaray vice-president Turgay Kiran is insistent, however, that the club are serious in their bid to sign Pires.

He said: "The talks are going on. Since Pires lowered his price, the chance of a deal going through is getting higher."

But Courbis added: "The price of our player is £2.75m a year. Lowering the price is not an issue you can discuss."

Galatasaray president Ozhan Canaydyn earlier said: "The agreement has not been reached yet, but we can say that we are making progress towards finalising it."

Pires has also been linked with Juventus, Valencia and Lyon and has spoken favourably about a move to Spain - or a return to France.

He joined Arsenal from Marseille in July 2000 for £6m and has scored 73 goals in 206 starts for the Gunners.

Pires refused a 12-month extension to his Highbury contract, which is due to expire in summer 2006, as he is holding out for a two-year deal.

From BBC sport.

Seems as though he is wanting to come to Turin... Would be a reasonable signing,as much as I dislike him.Would add a little bit of creativity upfront, which is greatly needed. He will fit right into serie A,mainly because of his over the top diving and other un-professional antics :irritate:

Moggi will also like this transfer because it involves very little money for a proven & decent player...
