It is what it is. If Bologna refuses to negotiate with Juventus and if Calafiori doesn’t push for it…then there is not much Juventus can do.

The saddest part is that he is probably the best young Italian defender and despite his preferences, he will end up in the premier league.

No point spending 50m if it means not getting Koop anyway. The latter is the bigger priority for us. Danilo and Bremner is still a solid pair of centre backs and Djalo was considered very promising before his injury and should now be fully ready and we still have Gatti and possibly Huijsen too.

Also, regarding the bidding war: it seems Bologna doesn't want to sell to us, regardless of amounts we are willing to offer. In that case the only way for us to get him is for him to put his foot down towards Bologna (like Locatelli did at the time).
So if that doesn't happen, there is no reason for us to get sour or regretfull.

I'd be happy if he joined but really, for this kind of money there's plenty of alternatives. We have splashed a tone of money for a young CB lately. Did it bring us to the next level? I don't think so. The best defense we had in BBC cost us how much? Less than half of a rumored fee for Calafiori. Let's not pretend that his supposed skills in bringing the ball from defense is our make or break with Motta. We had Bonucci for years who was superior to Calafiori and I don't see many people missing him.
We're not in Madrid position where we can splash huge money on some prospects and patiently wait for them to blossom or fade away. We need to get back to being competitive ASAP. That's why I think spending this kind of cash on a forward or midfielder is much more reasonable in our situation as we can find a partner for Bremer for much less.

We've invested a fortune in so called Italian talents. Chiesa, Bernardeschi, Kean, Caldara, Orsolini, Berardi, Ogbonna, Locatelli. It's just a shit investment.

Only Chiesa is top level star player in that list. Its not wether they italian or not in that list, but wether they good enough or not.


Its not a theory, its a historical fact italian top players as core unit is good for the culture building and consistent winning for Juve throughout history.


Its another matter italy produce much less of these players now. But it also makes it much more important to get the rare few who can become that for Juve when opportunity arise. As a Verratti (vice Pirlo) was decade ago, or a young Donnarumma (vice Buffon) etc. Inter gotten Bastoni and Barella and prolly can keep them their whole careers or aslong as they good.


But end of the day, nationality aside, its mainly about if the player is good enough or not, but for what Salvo means, it makes sense to want italian top players as part of the core of Juve, because of the proven history of it.

True that with an exception that he hasn't proved to be a top quality defender. He had a good season at BOLOGNA where he was often benched by Lucumi. It's not like we missed out on Nesta who was a captain of Lazio with 260 caps when he moved to Milan.
