So are you saying that a 21yo promising CB already reached his ceiling and is on par with Rugani…

Ok, anything else?

Basically nothing to do with the fact that Chelsea and other interested parties might rate him high enough to not be forced to release him for cheap or via an option to buy as we might've liked? And for the record i also want us to keep Rugani as backup, but your comparison is totally off, one can at best only be a solid rotational player whereas the other has the traits and potential to be fighting for an starting spot for many years to come.
im saying Veigas upside is squad player, fringe starter on a big club. He’s a better investment than Rugani because of his age and resale value, but as far as on the field, I don’t see much separation

Thing is that with two of our current defenders only now returning from lengthy ACL’s we’ll still need to buy at least another CB that will need to start more often than not anyway, especially if we are to play with 3 CB’s, and Veiga has shown potential and already adapted well here, along with the fact that he will be eager to become a protagonist and not just be content with sporadic reserve minutes…

As part of a functional system Veiga can still grow, unlike Rugani, who is less likely to have it in him to prove himself towards earning a regular starting spot, which makes them very different.

Anyway, it seems that our interest has cooled off for now, maybe Chelsea are asking for too much or don’t want to let him go permanently yet, but i maintain my stance that we would be better off finding a way to keep him.

Hadn't included in Chelsea squad list for CWC.
They already had Cowill, Chalobah, Tosin, Badiashille, Acheampong. And add Sarr, Anselmino in CB department. For DM, they add Essugo, Andrey Santos and prioritize them to include in the squad.

I guess he is out of Chelsea plan. I dont think we are in a hurry if Chelsea ask a big money. They only bought him for €14m last season

Seems odd that Chelsea decided to not include him in the squad while also not letting him go with another club… does anyone know if we can still add him ourselves? Maybe there are still talks behind the scenes about him extending for the CWC, otherwise i guess we can also assume he is in advanced talks with another club.

Hmmm so i checked transfermarkt and it shows that he is under contract with us until June 30th, which would mean he is still eligible to play for us in the group stages, but then why wouldn’t they find an agreement for an extra week like they did with Kolo and Conceicao? I’m guessing that we are actually still in talks with Chelsea or we’ll exclude him altogether.

Chelsea should be investigated for all this money laundering of black players. This isn’t 1859 New Orleans. You shouldn’t be able to buy up a bunch of Africans and just place them on loan everywhere.
In Renato's case, he was born and raised here in Lisbon. But it is true that some locals joke that Portugal is the Africa of Europe.

This is one of those situations where a common sense deal could work out for both sides, assuming Juve would like him back and view him as a starting caliber CB, and Veiga wants to stay at Juventus.

Chelsea don't want him, but probably want to make a nice deal to benefit them financially. Work out a deal that will trigger an obligation to buy based on appearances, with the more games started, the higher the fee.

I'd have no problem paying extra if we're essentially given 1.5 years to use him and decide if he's worth buying permanently.

JJ and common sense in the same sentence.
