Prodi was one of the promoters of the privatization of former Sip (the state owned phone company, monopolist in Italy). After that privatization, Sip took the name of Telecom Italia. The president of the new born company was a certain Guido Rossi (ever heard of him?).
There are many suspicions about this procedure. There are strng doubts that the State got the most convenient deal for the selling of the company, there has been a huge Telecom Serbia scandal connected to it, there are lots of debts. To this you have to add that Telecom get in the hands of Tronchetti Provera with the favour of the center-left government in 2001.
So you see, the more distance Prodi puts between his name and Telecom, the better for him.
If you're talking about Calciopoli ("City of football", stupid name for a scandal), I'll have you know that the minister of sports (that romanista wh**e) Giovanna Melandri, has been one of Guido Rossi's best buddies in these months.
