Cannavaro’s Real temptation
Thursday 27 April, 2006
Real Madrid are lining up a bold summer swoop for Juventus stopper Fabio Cannavaro.
Recent reports from Spain suggest that the Bernabeu club are ready to table a three-year contract offer worth £4.8m per season in a bid to prise the Azzurri captain away from the Stadio Delle Alpi.
Cannavaro joined the Bianconeri from Inter two years ago in an exchange deal for Uruguayan goalkeeper Fabian Carini. While Carini is yet to make his mark in Milan, Cannavaro has gone from strength-to-strength in Juventus colours.
Now the Spanish giants are set to rebuild the defence that has long been their Achilles heel around the Neapolitan defender.
Cannavaro has enjoyed another solid season for the Old Lady, but will be glad to turn the attentions of the Press away from his horror challenge on Gaby Mudingayi during last weekend’s draw with Lazio, which has brought widespread criticism.
It appears that the defender’s future plans may also have an impact upon the future of his Coach Fabio Capello. The two have a close relationship in Turin and if one were to depart for Madrid the other could be expected to follow.
