Real Madrid punish Cassano
Monday 30 October, 2006
Antonio Cassano has been excluded from Real Madrid’s first team after hitting out at Coach Fabio Capello.
The Bari-born striker, who hasn’t played for over a month, was furious with Capello on Saturday during the 3-1 win over Gimnastic, when he screamed out of all his disappointment.
“Have you got no shame? I fought for you in Rome and this is how you repay me,” Cassano reportedly shouted, causing the club’s furious reaction.
Reports suggest sporting director Predrag Mijatovic had a meeting with senior players Raul, Guti and Roberto Carlos, informing them that the former Roma man would be punished.
“An appropriate fine will be levied according to the club's internal regulations,” read an official statement.
Cassano was forced to train alone as the Merengues prepare for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Steaua Bucharest.
He moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Roma in January, but has made just one Champions League appearance this season and featured in four League games, scoring once.
He was an unused substitute against Gimnastic along with Inter and Milan target Ronaldo, who warmed up for the entire second half on Saturday without being brought on.
