Don't get me wrong, I'm all for giving Ranieri the boot... But if its to bring in Spalletti, I think we wouldn't have improved at all...

Our offensive play will not be improved because of a change in coach, it'll be improved because we'll have someone to play the ball to the forwards (Diego)... There's a chance of our defensive play going south (I know it can't get any worse than it is now, but you never know)

Btw, welcome to the forums Barthota :)

I think we should look at the situation we have now while evaluating potential coaches. Where do you guys think the gap is currently? Where did Ranieri go wrong ?
First and foremost we have to accept that this squad is weak and will probably stay that way next season, when compared to Inter and other clubs in Europe. We have a large number of average players and they we can't replace the whole lot, while expecting to get any type of success or even reach minimum targets such as doing well or even reaching the CL.

Now to the current problems we have from a managerial sense. We need someone who has a strong personality to lead this group of players and deal with the management as well. While we're at personality, we need someone to instil back the winning mentality back in the squad to get them to play at a high level throughout the season.

Tactically we have been pretty inconsistent in regards to adjusting our plans or in some games even pre-game preparation ( admittedly part of it is due to the squad and injuries). The main factor here is inconsistency imo, some games hes doing well in some aspects while others he was simply out of ideas. We need someone with a strong tactical approach, rather than simply put the burden back on the players to perform.

Who could fill in all the gaps ? I don't think we could reasonably get anyone with all those attributes. So which ones are the most important?
-Spalletti- strong tactically especially in preparation, but somehow weak from a personality perspective especially from a discipline perspective.

- Prandelli: Again strong tactically even during games but he is suspect while dealing with pressure and he doesn't seem to settle on a set of players ( i don't know if its only him or thats marino's influence).

-Gasperini- Seems to be the best option due to the good mix of tactics and personality. But he hasn't been tested in the big stage( europe, challenging for top spots etc). So we don't entirely know how he would deal with everything when the going gets tough.

- Conte: Haven't seen much of his games (only a couple if am not mistaken) but his personality is respected by most of the players due to his past status at the club and will have the fans support for the same reason. He is the riskiest of the lot imo, as he has only coached at Serie B.

What do you think? Please Discuss (© Abu G)

I would go for Spalletti for his tactics and experience, I like Prandelli and Gasperini too but I don't like their tactics that much
Conte? too inexperienced

Bolded part 1 - I doubt that... Most of us fans are bitter and think that it can't get any worse than this... Trust me, it can :)

Bolder part 2 - You haven't seen anything yet :D

Not exaggerating, I'd welcome Ferrara or even Nedved as Ranieri replacement (which doesn't mean that Nedved is that donkey ;)). But we are speaking about top coaches here, and there are only two in the world who would make me beg Ranieri to stay (and thats saying a lot). The names are Cuper and Scolari.

Juve chief hails Ranieri's work
Thursday 14 May, 2009
Claudio Ranieri's chances of sitting on the Juventus bench next season have increased as Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has praised him for his work.

Ranieri wasn't able to deliver the silverware that the Old Lady's fans demanded this term and most experts expect him to be given his marching orders at the end of the campaign.

But the club have been keen to stress their satisfaction with the former Parma man's work and Cobolli Gigli has again lavished praise on his Coach.

“We saw a great game against Milan last weekend and the team had obviously been well managed by Ranieri,” he asserted.

“We have said that for now we just want to go forward to the end of the season and look for the nine points that could bring us second place.

“After that we will make our decisions. But in the long meeting that we had two days ago there was a substantial appreciation for the work that Ranieri has done this year.”

Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini and Bari tactcian Antonio Conte are the favourites to replace Ranieri.
