If I try to look at this more objectively...I cannot dissagree that Benitez would be a major improvement, tactically and perhaps motivationally, on both Zach and Ciro. There can be no doubt of this.

First and foremost, our club needs a Leader. A man whose mere presence will lift the spirits of the players and fans alike, and demand better of them than they have been giving.

Its hard for me to talk of transfer strategies, because the general set-up in italy is different to that in england. And I still do not truly understand WHO decides which players to go for, and how much they are worth. Secco? or the manager?

Benitez seems to make a club Benitez FC, imposing himself out of vanity, rather than intelligence.

So...a Leader. with experience, at sorting out ruined teams??? Who does that leave???

If we had had a better season, and I felt we needed an injection of something simply fresh and modern, then Allegri could be considered, but he is NOT a man who will demand instant respect and desire to perform well, from the players. I am unsure about Prandelli.

Still...its useless for me to be demanding Capello or Lippi or Hitzfeld, when none of them seem viable. And it IS about time, I began accepting that benitez is a vast improvement of what we have had this last season. I just want a manager who will make the club once again proud of itself. If Benitez can do this, then I will wish him luck and support him...though clearly, i hope for someone who gives me the impression they are a Decent Man as well as Decent Manager. The spaniards meets the latter, not the former.

Whichever coach comes to the club needs to be someone with a great attitude who can inspire the players after a poor season and who wont be playing in the CL. A coach who can build a team, not just buy world class players, but build a team that is going to challenge and win titles for the next 3 or 4 years as a minimum.

In saying that, we need to bring in someone who can work with our transfer guru, hopefully this isnt Secco. The reason Juve was so successful under Lippi was because Moggi and him worked well together and had a mutual understanding of what was required in terms of players and their overall qualities (abilities and mentality).

As mentioned a million times in this thread, Rafa is poor in the transfer market, but a major upgrade in what we have as a coach now. If he can work well with Secco to pull strings to lure players then great.

For me I like the idea of bringing in a coach like Blanc or Deschamps...men who have experienced life and football in Italy.

Benitez' overbearing managing style could be good for this Juve, the more responsibilities he takes away from our incompetent board the better. I would love to get Benitez but if the stories in the press are true he is almost playing games with our board, not denying them but not committing to anything either.

If not Benitez than I would prefer Capello or Prandelli although neither seem likely right now. Hell no to Allegri.

I would really have liked to get Laurent Blanc but that seems even less likely than the above mentioned managers.

Capello is being mentioned a lot now, under him we'll play boring and defensive..we would be well structured and obviously he is a miles ahead of zaccheroni, but still, we'll end up complaining because he'll play a 4-4-2 formation and have DM all over the place.

At this point I would take Capello and boring football back in a heartbeat. Is the link to him really that serious? I guess it is possible since we have a completely different board than his first term.

I've always been a defender my whole life so I have a passion for it. Personally I don't mind a defensive game as long as we win and grind out results, that's what matters to me. A solid, well structured team that maintains and gains possession well, not necessarily gung ho in attack. I want to win, and I want my team/players/staff well disciplined like a well oiled machine. For that I would not mind Capello at all.

He is a coach that players listen to and to an extent fear. At this level you need to be afraid to make mistakes because you will end up on the bench, and that is good from a mental standpoint. Keeping our players mentally strong for 90 mins is needed quickly. We can't afford to play non stop attacking football only to give up goals on countless counter attacks.

Mourinho doesn't always play a pretty game, but he wins any way possible and if it means reshuffling the team over and over again tactically he still gets the results. And we all know that if you fuck up with him you end up on the bench. The way it should be. That's what we need.

I would do an even trade of gio-kjaer. For kolarov id give gio plus 5m.
Don't even want to think about it. using our most talented youngster as bait for other players is sad.

But actually somehow I feel Gio/Iago will get a chance under Rafa.
He likes to put a technically gifted and fast player on one of the wings for counterattacks. (e.g. Luis Garcia, Benayoun, Vicente, Riera) and this is actually one of the most successful tactics of Rafa.

IIRC, Liverpool scored quite a lot of goals with the "defend set piece > long ball > benayoun > kuyt/torres/gerrard" formula.

I don't want him to go but reality is reality. He could be more useful to us as bait than a bench player again. You don't need to remind me of his talent, that I know.

I agree that he should be sold if he can't get a spot but I think the board should wait until our new manager makes up his mind before letting him go. If we end up with a 4-2-3-1 like tuttosport then he could be very useful as a LW. I like that line-up but Kuyt and IQ are really killing it for me, I would much rather use Gio if the manager will play him.

Signing Silva would be brilliant but he would cost half our transfer budget.

Kolarov only    ??

Who else can you think of?
Well he isnt the best at defending. Dont get me wrong, i like him as a player and although he hasnt played as well as he did last season, i think he can be very useful.

He is more attacking than Criscito, but Criscito can defend. So it depends on what we need.

Nonetheless, Kolarov would be an upgrade on what we have now.
